Vice President Biden's press office demands student reporter delete photos, apologizes

Rockville Patch is reporting that a University of Maryland student reporter covering Vice President Joe Biden’s remarks at a domestic violence event was bullied into deleting his photos of the event. Lucy A. Dalglish, dean of the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland, called the incident “pure intimidation” and filed a complaint with the vice president’s press office, which later apologized.

“The event began and I took a few photos of each speaker,” [Capital News Service reporter Jeremy] Barr said. “People a few rows in front of me were also taking photos.”

After the event was over, Barr was questioned.

“[The staffer] asked, ‘Did you take any photos during the event?’” Barr said. He told the staffer, yes, he had taken a few photos.

“She said, ‘I need to see your camera right now.’” Barr said. The staffer called Barr’s presence in the non-press area an “unfair advantage” over the other members of the media at the event.

An unfair advantage? Did she think he might catch Biden on camera saying something stupid?
