A dolphin that found its way into Brooklyn’s heavily polluted Gowanus Canal died late Friday afternoon, dashing hopes that the animal would find its way to safety with the rise of the tide. Biologist Robert DiGiovanni told the New York Daily News that it was unsafe for rescuers to enter the polluted water of the canal, which the EPA declared a Superfund site in 2010.
Quite a few tweeters called out Nanny Bloomberg for allowing a life to slip through his usually overreaching fingers.
