Jihad week activities seem to have moved closer to home as police on Friday night arrested Adel Daoud, 18, of Hillside, Ill., after he allegedly tried to detonate a car bomb outside of a Chicago bar.

Daoud was charged Saturday with trying to use a weapon of mass destruction and trying to destroy a building using explosives. Prosecutors said Daoud came to the attention of the FBI after making online posts which “expressed an interest in engaging in violent jihad.” Undercover federal agents arranged to meet with Daoud and supplied him with fake bomb materials. Daoud reportedly had compiled a list of potential targets including military recruiting centers, bars, malls and Chicago area tourist attractions.
