Following NHS tribute at Olympics, Alan Cumming perpetuates myth of 'free' health care; 'Don't be scared'

You could say Alan Cumming is a fan of President Barack Obama; so much so, in fact, that the Scottish-born actor credits Obama’s vision for the country as the inspiration for his becoming a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2008. So we’ll assume Cumming is referring to Obamacare when he mentions the promise of “free health” for America.

The tribute to Great Britain’s National Health Service at the Olympic opening ceremony Friday night inspired many to praise socialized medicine this weekend.

Something must be getting lost in translation here. America is still trying to decide if Obamacare is a tax or a penalty on free riders. Did someone else say health care in the United Kingdom is free?

Michael Moore was proud of Brits for their protest to preserve a system they love.

Actor John Barrowman of “Doctor Who” and “Torchwood” fame also urged Americans to embrace NHS-style health care. Although Barrowman did stop short of calling socialized medicine “free,” he  couldn’t resist suggesting that its opponents somehow think only some “deserve” care.

Apparently there’s a great deal of British pride invested in not letting poor people die like Americans do.

Don’t worry: Brits are willing to team up to bring us a trans-Atlantic health care system. Don’t be scared!
