Remember back in 2012 when President Barack Obama said, “You know, if I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon [Martin].” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is taking a page from the same book and saying everyone should pretend that beloved Michael Jackson impersonator Jordan Neely was their son. This editor has a son and considers it his duty to make sure his son has a place to live and gets the support he needs. We know Neely had a family because they issued a statement from their attorney calling Daniel Perry’s statement “character assassination.”
AOC is promoting an interview she did with The Cut after New York City Mayor Eric Adams scolded her for jumping to the accusation of murder before the investigation was complete. Again, she blames the city she represents in Congress for failing Neely and not meeting his needs.
Surprisingly, AOC doesn’t back up Elizabeth Spier’s claim that the subway is perfectly safe if you don’t mind being groped. The Cut asked AOC about the subway, which to us is a train that gets paying customers across the city and nothing else.
The subway is the ultimate public space. I’ve spent countless hours on the subway. I still take it to this day. It’s a mirror to our society. When our policies drive up homelessness, you will see more homeless people on the subway. When our policies create an unsafe environment, we’re bound to feel less safe on the subway. I myself have felt unsafe on the subway. I have left train cars. I have had men follow me around. But never, ever, ever have I felt a desire to harm that person. Nor have I seen anyone else try to. If something seems especially escalatory, then yeah, you might feel on edge. I think most people avoid eye contact, look down between their shoes, and wait for the moment to pass. Most of the time, it does. If you feel uncomfortable, move. That usually solves the problem.
“That usually solves the problem,” except when it doesn’t.
If that was my son, he wouldn't be homeless.

Talk to us more about how you don’t understand homelessness.

If it's safer for everyone else if they're given housing then it stands to reason it would also probably be safer for everyone else if they're thrown in prison or a mental hospital.

How many have you put up in your home?

A safer city is one that has adequate policing as well as one that doesn’t tolerate a revolving door for repeat offenders.

A safer city is one that enforces their laws and doesn’t let violent criminals roam free.

If this were your son, would you have left him homeless, hungry, and wandering the F train begging to go back to jail?

Yes. Yes she would.

So house them then.

Congratulations on stoking civil unrest and violence with your political platforms. You'll make a fine tyrant one day.

I thought we were saying houselessness now

Half the folks virtue signaling in these events don’t even dare to help homeless folks when they come around asking. As long as they aren’t loud and obnoxious so you guys can look the other way easier. And I’d know – I live in the city & watch folks ignore homeless 24/7

Which is what she advised above. Just avoid eye contact and look at your shoes. That’s what she would have done for Neely.
You house them then. But you wouldn’t even help your abuela.

Remember the GoFundMe campaign to fix her aunt’s roof? That was some excellent trolling.
