As you know by now, Anheuser-Bush sent TikTok influencer Dylan Mulvaney a special can of Bud Light with “her” face on it commemorating her “365 days of girlhood.” Mulvaney reps for a number of big names and makes a ton of money doing it. But Nike didn’t impress women by paying Mulvaney to dance around in a sports bra and leggings, and it didn’t impress women by having Mulvaney surrounded by Bud Light cans.
We can’t confirm this video is authentic, but it sure looks authentic, so we’re going with it. Have sales of Anheuser-Busch products already been affected? He says yes, absolutely.

Unintended consequences but he is clearly blaming the correct source.

A prime example of why businesses and companies need to stay out of politics and just focus on their product.

Nice job @AnheuserBusch 😡

AB most definitely knows their clientele. They just don’t care.

1/ Right about now I suspect that the marketing folks at Anheuser Busch are getting a little worried. In theory, no one was supposed to see the Dylan Mulvaney Bud Light stuff except the folks who subscribed to Mulvaney's TikTok feed.https://t.co/BNQs7Y8v7j

2/ A-B InBev could signal their virtue to "the community" without most people even knowing it happened. Sure, there might be some leakage on Twitter, but so what? Barely 12% of adults ever visit Twitter, for any reason.
— Robert A. Hahn (@Robert_A_Hahn) April 8, 2023
3/ But now, the "leakage" continues. Their attempt to "quietly" dance The Virtue Dance is on the front page of the NY Post. People who were never supposed to see Mulvaney with his Bud Light can are seeing it… and they are not happy.

4/ Different people are unhappy for different reasons. Many people who don't really have anything against trans individuals still do not want to see it shoved in their faces, or celebrated by big companies. Many trans people view Mulvaney as a con…

5/ They see Mulvaney as a gay male who makes bank being a cross-dresser, but who has no intention of ever "transitioning." And then we have all the people who see Dylan Mulvaney as a poster boy for the Fall of Western Civilization.
— Robert A. Hahn (@Robert_A_Hahn) April 8, 2023
6/ None of these people are happy with Bud Light right now. I think the segment A-B has the most to worry about is straight women who view Mulvaney as a usurper and an insult to womankind. Worldwide, women buy almost half the Bud Light. That's not a group they'd want to alienate.
— Robert A. Hahn (@Robert_A_Hahn) April 8, 2023
7/ If the existence of the Dylan Mulvaney "partnership" with Bud Light continues to escape into the wider world, it could become a serious problem for A-B. I don't think it is yet, but it hasn't stopped leaking yet. So far only the Red Media is bobbing for clicks with the story.
— Robert A. Hahn (@Robert_A_Hahn) April 8, 2023
8/ But: now it's leaking into the Blue Media as well. NBC News, Yahoo news, and CBS News are all driving clicks by telling people about the campaign and the reaction to it. I can almost guarantee that no one at A-B expected this to happen. This could indeed impact sales.

AB knows their clientele. I worked for them for twenty years. They just tried to reach out to a new market. It failed miserably. Now they have to figure out how to adjust to the backlash. Oh by the way, if that guy works directly for a local distributor, just let him be.

The trans community is so oppressed that giant multinational corporations lose access to capital if they don’t give trans people money https://t.co/2FDF1tNHoM
— Oilfield Rando (@Oilfield_Rando) April 8, 2023
As someone said above, some don’t even include Mulvaney in the trans community … he’s a gay man who’s been playing dress-up for a year. And women see him as nothing but an insulting caricature. But he’s got a huge TikTok following, so that trumps everything else.
