Trans collective says Nashville school shooter had 'no other effective way to be seen'

One thing I hate is the way “feeling seen” has been adopted into the national discourse. Members of “marginalized” groups always say how they feel seen after some Democrat politician panders to them. “We see you,” they’ll say.

Speaking of being seen, Transgender Week of Visibility sure kicked off with the transgender community in the spotlight. We’re surprised President Biden didn’t shoot a video for the occasion; he did last year. But last year it was just the Transgender Day of Visibility. Expect Transgender Month of Visibility next year. Who even declares these to be a thing?

We’ve heard some sob stories about Covenant School shooter Audrey Hale. The Daily Mail reported that she was “rejected” by her Christian parents, even though she lived with them at age 28, and they probably paid to send her to art school. The New York Post let me down Wednesday by reporting that Hale was “heartbroken” over the death of a friend she was “infatuated” with. Eli Erlick was certain that Hale and others had been abused at her right-wing Christian school.

Fox News is reporting that the Trans Resistance Network released a statement Monday calling the mass shooting, as well as Hale’s death, a “dual tragedy.” After all, shooting up a school was the only effective means for Hale “to be seen.”

Houston Keene reports:

“The second and more complex tragedy is that Aiden or Audrey Hale, who felt [she] had no other effective way to be seen than to lash out by taking the life of others, and by consequence, [herself],” they continued.

TRN wrote they “do not claim to know the individual or have access to their inner thoughts and feelings” but they “do know that life for transgender people is very difficult, and made more difficult in the preceding months by a virtual avalanche of anti-trans legislation, and public callouts by Right Wing personalities and political figures for nothing less than the genocidal eradication of trans people from society.”

“Many transgender people deal with anxiety, depression, thoughts of suicide, and PTSD from the near-constant drum beat of anti-trans hate, lack of acceptance from family members and certain religious institutions, denial of our existence, and calls for de-transition and forced conversion,” TRN claimed.

Public callouts for “nothing less that the genocidal eradication of trans people from society.” Yeah, all that rhetoric about trans genocide probably didn’t influence Hale. Not to mention that “genocide” would eradicate you from more than just society.

It’s true that many transgender people deal with thoughts of suicide, but do those necessarily stem from “anti-trans hate”? Or perhaps there’s some connection between gender dysphoria and suicidal ideation that we can’t talk about.

How can we help but see them? No, seriously, how?
