NBC News really wants Donald Trump to be the 2024 nominee, Exhibit A

The Trump 2024 camp and the DeSantis 2024 camps have been set in place (even though Gov. Ron DeSantis hasn’t declared his candidacy), and it’s pretty clear that the mainstream media is on Team Trump. NBC News reports that it should have been a bad week for Donald Trump — after all, he said he’d be indicted on Tuesday, and instead, the grand jury was dismissed Wednesday and Thursday and nothing happened (sorry, Rob Reiner). NBC News says that a group of 16 prominent Republicans and donors met in Florida last Sunday, and the consensus what that DeSantis would be better off waiting until 2028.

Four reporters have bylines on this story:

Ron DeSantis may be missing his moment.

A number of the Florida governor’s donors and allies are worried his recent stumbles suggest he may not be ready for a brutal fight against Donald Trump. Some feel DeSantis needs to accelerate his timeline to run for the GOP presidential nomination and begin directly confronting Trump if he’s to have any chance of thwarting the former president’s momentum. Others believe DeSantis should sidestep Trump altogether and wait until 2028 to run.

But … the walls are closing in on Trump, for real this time.
