George Orwell’s “1984” is a masterpiece, which makes it so painful to see it misquoted, misinterpreted, and attached to anything someone doesn’t like. “The View’s” Whoopi Goldberg, who probably hasn’t read “1984,” was happy to have the federal government and a small select committee have control over all of the January 6 security footage and what the public would see and not see. But the Speaker Kevin McCarthy released the footage into the private sector, and now it’s Tucker Carlson who’s taking a page from “1984” by telling viewers to reject what their eyes and ears are telling them.

Believe it or not, it’s possible to believe that there were violent mobs on January 6 and that there were peaceful citizens who were guided in by the Capitol Police and did nothing more than take selfies. Both can be true.
