There’s probably no one who can cook up a ratio on Twitter like American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten. She’s finally figured out that she can limit replies and does so on everything she tweets. You wouldn’t think the AFT would have any business with Twitter, but you’d be wrong — Weingarten says that Elon Musk is using it as his personal playground instead of for its original intent: to be a public square. All we’ve seen so far is people being invited back into that public square, but Weingarten’s not satisfied and has signed onto a statement by the Center for American Progress demanding that Musk be held accountable — by whom and for what, exactly?
ElonMusk uses Twitter as his personal playground, as opposed to the public square – it’s original intent. We joined a letter seeking accountability onto from advertisers, the FTC, and Congress. Read it here: https://t.co/naA7CUhGRp

Here’s what the Center for American Progress (CAP Action) is demanding: that advertisers make sure Musk “does not profit from dismantling one of the world’s most influential communications platforms”; that the Federal Trade Commission investigate Twitter for any violations; and that Congress hold hearings on the “Thursday Night Massacre,” when nine journalists were suspended for about 48 hours for linking to the location of Musk’s private plane.
Here’s just a sample of their B.S. statement:
Journalism is the cornerstone of free speech, and any attack on journalism is an assault on one of our fundamental pillars. While pretending to give power back to the people, Elon Musk is actually turning Twitter into an autocratic system where neo-Nazi accounts are restored while journalists’ accounts are suspended. This is a dangerous turn that raises deep concerns.
You know Weingarten believes in the public square and free speech by the way she limits replies on every tweet.
Randi Weingarten is evil. https://t.co/k8rhVnYBtk

Pretty troubling that the head of one of the largest teachers unions has such a thin grasp on the First Amendment. https://t.co/AQK2ckVdin

A) Twitters original “intent” whatever that means wasn’t to be a “public square”
B) Companies aren’t bound by original (or secondary or tertiary) intent. https://t.co/zai2SLhlzb— smilerz (@smilerz91) December 21, 2022

@rweingarten where was your outrage over Twitter silencing journalists before? Not a peep when the country’s oldest newspaper with the 4th largest circulation account was locked over the Hunter laptop story. https://t.co/qtWPP2B5OW

Any comment on that? Where was the statement when the entire New York Post’s staff of journalists was held hostage for six weeks for not removing a 100-percent true story from Twitter?
No, it's not the public square and it's not the government's business.
It's a dumb website, privately owned, which will almost certainly fade away—probably soon—as all things do. https://t.co/yIlWRCYfHf

Randi is so unpopular that her replies are almost always shut off. She’s in charge of the largest public sector union in the country — misbranded as a teachers union when 50% of its members are administrators and bureaucrats. https://t.co/xZcYrwvxJz

As long as we’re demanding accountability, how about the unions keeping schools closed and denying kids an education? Could we get a congressional hearing on that?
