The United Nations reminds us that words can be weapons and hate speech is bad

When we hear from the United Nations, we listen. And then we laugh and call once again for the UN to be defunded. We’re not sure if it’s Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter that inspired this new attempt to get a hashtag going, but the UN reminds us that words can be weapons and hate speech online can lead to cruelty and violence.

Oh, awesome, the UN has even provided a list of handy tips:

Pause

Refrain from making any hateful comments yourself and/or relaying such content. Whether online or offline, we should all act responsibly to stop the spread of hate and misinformation. Check out the United Nations #PledgetoPause campaign to find out why it’s important to take a moment to pause before you share content online. Learn how to do this responsibly – whether you’re forwarding a message, retweeting a story or watching a video in your feed.

It was in 2021 when Twitter rolled out its own “pause” feature, automatically detecting “mean” replies on its service and prompting the user, “Want to review this before Tweeting?”

We’d happily exchange the UN for some mean tweets right about now.

They really don’t. When was the last time they did anything worthwhile? We still with Trump had kicked them out and then bought up the property for condos or something.
