Politico: President Joe Biden hopes his 'Catholic sister,' Nancy Pelosi, 'sticks'

Politico senior political columnist Jonathan Martin kicks off his column by noting that President Joe Biden and Speaker Nancy Pelosi “have become the faces of their party.” So you’ve got a 79-year-old white man and an 82-year-old white woman as the faces of your party. Do the Democrats have any bench at all? Gavin Newsom? Kamala Harris? Pete Buttigieg?

What caught our eye, of course, was Pelosi being Biden’s “Catholic sister” … who in the hell coined that term? Apparently, it was Biden himself:

“I hope you stick,” Biden told Pelosi in a phone call after congratulating her on the caucus’s unexpected victories and asking about her convalescing husband, according to Democrats familiar with the conversation. Pelosi interjected to note her personal considerations and Biden continued, “I know it’s family first but I hope you stick,” before Pelosi deflected again.

An Irish-American from Delaware and an Italian-American from Baltimore, the two pre-Baby Boom Roman Catholics bonded when Biden was vice president. “My Catholic sister!” he’d exclaim when he saw Pelosi.

They’re both institutionalists at their core and have come to share a grave concern about the country’s democracy, a sense of alarm that has only grown after the attack on Paul Pelosi.

Yep, devoted Catholics Biden and Pelosi.

They’re so devoutly Catholic that they’d promised to codify Roe v. Wade if Democrats kept the House. It’s actually quite frightening how much Biden has internalized all of the lies he keeps telling about himself. No, how did the New York Times put it? He’s the “Storyteller in Chief” who “spins yarns that often unravel.”
