As Twitchy reported earlier, Gov. Ron DeSantis tweeted that “looting and lawlessness will not be tolerated” as Hurricane Ian batters Florida, and warned people thinking of looting homes that “you never know what may be lurking” behind someone’s door. MSNBC’s Joy Reid dug up a quote from 1967 from segregationist Miami sheriff Walter E. Headley to demonize DeSantis: “When the looting starts, the shooting starts.” How is that segregationist, though, unless you consider all looters to be black?
Jayson Frascatore asked why DeSantis was threatening violence in the midst of a hurricane aftermath.
Why is Ron DeSantis threatening violence in the midst of hurricane aftermath? https://t.co/ytkKvv6afy

We don’t think he was threatening violence … we think he was giving would-be looters some good advice.

No one is saying looting isn’t wrong. It’s an obvious crime. But DeSantis is claiming Florida is a “Second Amendment state” when that’s literally in all 50 states.

Many communities have lost everything and it’s impossible to navigate. Instead of bringing people together, he further divides with racist dogwhistles and culture wars. He wants to act strong, when he’s just weak and desperately looking for headlines. https://t.co/pEToSyKgTa

How is it a racist dog whistle? That’s the mainstream media after Hurricane Katrina, not DeSantis. Blame the Dems running the media.
This ratio is violence.

Don't loot and you won't have to worry about it.

It's only a threat to those who would loot.

Shooting looters is universally accepted.

Why don’t you know the difference between a threat and a warning?
— 100 Proof 🥃 (@ChampionCapua) October 1, 2022
At least they’re getting a warning.

I think you’ll find that most Floridians (with the exception of some recent escapees from Blue States)
value their 2nd Amendment right to defend their family and property from looters.— 🤬MAMADOXIE🤬 (@Mamadoxie) October 1, 2022
Why do people need to be reminded not to break the law in the midst of hurricane aftermath?
— Joey Postlewaite (@JoeyPostlewaite) October 1, 2022
It's because people who are looting should be shot, Jayson.

Guess you wouldn't have anything to say about the rooftop Koreans now would you?

I’m sorry this is happening to you.

It’s pretty clearly a warning and not a threat. Using a natural disaster as a pretense for looting people’s homes is a bad idea. Looting’s bad, m’kay?
