Two new academic studies claim that gun owners are racist

People in academia receive grants to do studies like these — to “prove” what they already believe — and when they’re done they send out press releases hoping major news outlets will contact them for interviews. As we told you last summer, both CNN and NPR picked up on an author with a new book explaining the racist roots of the Second Amendment, and how the Second Amendment wasn’t about guns but “anti-Blackness.”

We haven’t seen the mainstream media pick up on these studies — they too probably think they don’t smell right. The Federalist reports that these news studies study the correlation between gun ownership and racism.

Dan Lennington and Will Flanders report:

The University of Wisconsin recently promoted a new study contending that in U.S. counties where black people were enslaved in 1860, gun ownership is higher today. In fact, gun ownership, they say, is correlated to the number of slaves formerly in each county. To support this more-slaves-means-more-guns theory, the authors construct a historical narrative that whites feared newly freed slaves, bought guns for self-defense, and then this fear somehow trickled down over 160 years.

A few days after the release of the slavery-predicts-gun-ownership study, the American Psychological Association (APA) released another study contending that whites support gun rights because they are racist, and when whites oppose gun rights, that’s also racist.

We’re not surprised to see the American Psychological Association throw away any credibility it once had.

So many racist cops … no wonder there were riots.

But we’re supposed to pay off the student loans of people who went to the University of Wisconsin to learn stuff like this.

Does it?
