President Joe Biden's body man leaving the White House for the Transportation Department

Fox News is reporting that President Joe Biden’s “body man,” Stephen Goepfert, is leaving the White House for a gig with the Department of Transportation. This is the poor guy who’s been preparing speech podiums and handing notes since the early months of Biden’s campaign, so we can imagine he’s had enough. Fox News reports that he’ll be replaced by Jacob Spreyer, the current White House receptionist. That’s good — at Biden’s age, it’s important that he be surrounded by familiar faces.

Fox News reports:

“You’re literally at the border of where the President’s privacy and public duties sit — you have to have the right touch and right skill set,” Steve Ricchetti, a counselor to the President, told CNN. “Stephen has had the ability and the willingness to help the President navigate everything he did throughout the day. That ends up being a critical role.”

White House chief of staff Ron Klain echoed the sentiment.

“I have worked with and seen many body people over the years, Stephen is at the top,” Klain told the outlet. “It’s a tough and grueling job, and no one has done it with the competence, kindness, and warmth that he has.”

Handing notes and preparing podiums is a tough and grueling job if it’s for Biden.

He’s heading to the Transportation Department, but no one seems to know what he’ll be doing there. Maybe he’ll be Pete Buttigieg’s body man.
