US Attorney's Office decides it will not prosecute Stephen Colbert's crew for unlawful entry

We knew this was coming, we just didn’t know when. Last month, nine staffers of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” were arrested and charged with illegal entry to House office buildings after hours. As the story goes, they were invited in by House Intelligence Chair Adam Schiff, but then returned after hours without an escort so they could film a Triumph the Insult Comic bit outside the offices of Rep. Laurent Boebert and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in D.C. has declined to prosecute the Colbert crew, explaining that the office would be required to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that they were guilty of unlawful entry because their escort left them unattended. So if you want to enter government buildings after hours to shoot a comedy bit for your liberal late-night show, feel free.

The Capitol Police, who made the arrest, are cool with the decision to drop all charges.
