We’re not making fun of the original poster here — this is a joke meant to set off the gun-grabber crowd, and it worked. You know how they’re always telling us that the AR-15 is a “weapon of war,” which is strange, since we don’t equip our soldiers with them. We’ve seen them target AR-15s because the rounds travel faster through the air. We’ve seen USA TODAY show off the deadly chainsaw bayonet aftermarket attachment. And now we’re getting a close-up look at the button that turns your AR-15 from regular semi-automatic to overlapping auto:
When I was in the Army, we kept our M-16’s locked up in the armory. The only time we brought them out was for guard duty — or when we trained for war.

I tell what struck me. I have hunted with a semiautomatic, I have shot too many bottles and cans to count and I didn't know a semiautomatic could fire that fast. The shots seem to overlap

I am prior service armored infantry for the Coast Guard–for those unfamiliar, this is the button that switches your AR from regular semi-auto to overlapping-auto

I pressed that button once. Something like 15 school kids suddenly died, in a different town. Don’t. Ever. Touch. That. Button.

Actually that button activates the AR15's railgun feature allowing it to punch clean through tank armor like it isn't even there. The rail gun can be exchanged for a flame thrower, plasma, shotgun, volkite, and or orbital bombardment marking beam. No civilian needs to have it.

I thought that was the self destruct button?

When I served in the Southland Mall Department of Loss Prevention (DLP) we called this the "Rittenhouse Manouver."
Civilians have no need of a this, full stop.

That actually increases velocity by 300 every press. Similar to pumping a BB gun. I’ve heard 10 pumps can go through a tank.

Thought that was the sniper button

When I was LAPD airborne SWAT they told us that button could be depressed multiple times to increase the power of the hammer hitting the round, thereby increasing its velocity and giving us the capacity to penetrate light vehicle armor. We never used it because it was too deadly

When I was in, they had that button reconfigured to allow us to switch back & forth between regular bullets and flame-thrower mode. The selector switch would allow for both, so you could shoot flaming bullets.

It's for during the grenade launcher. Most models don't have a launcher, so the button dies nothing.
