There’s a new Gallup poll out asking Americans about their confidence in U.S. institutions, and the average is at a new low. Americans have the most confidence in small business, followed closely by the military. Confidence in the presidency is down 15 points from last year, dropping from 38 to 23 points. Glenn Greenwald notes that the media does not fare well: newspapers come in at 16 points, and television news at a startling 11 points, down from 16 a year ago. The only institution rated lower was Congress, at 7 points. With the exception of organized labor, everything is down from 2021.
Public trust in media is close to non-existent. This new Gallup poll reveals that only the Dem-controlled Congress (7%) is trusted less by the public than TV news (11%), with newspapers (16%) also very near the bottom.
Almost zero self-critique from journalists about why. pic.twitter.com/Okg5Rbh2Ix

The only reason these pitiful numbers for trust in media aren't zero is because Dems — of course — trust the media in far larger numbers (35% for newspapers) than GOP (5%) and independents (12%). Same with TV news.

I celebrate this because it means a lot of people are primed to get red pilled. That's definitely a good thing.

Saddest part about this is that, across the board, trust is down. That should be setting off alarm bells everywhere that has them.

Media doesn't care if their #'s are in the toilet cuz news is not about informing the public anymore. They care about putting out their party's propaganda. Congress doesn't care cuz they know if they can get one side to hate the other more than them they'll keep reelecting them.

One of our most important institutions. If our democracy erodes you can lay it at the feet of journalists who played to the bias of their audience to gain viewership/readership.

I remember growing up and seeing opinions reserved for the editorial section rather than the front page…

Would love to hear that self-critique from @washingtonpost.

Sort of surprised more voices aren’t asking if it isn’t part of an agenda to destroy trust in the foundational institutions of the USA…
