It’s pretty adorable that Washington Post opinion columnist Paul Waldman is triggered that some “right-wing sites” are referring to the Parental Rights in Education law as the “Anti-Groomer Bill” when he himself misnamed the legislation as “Don’t Say Gay.” Hey Waldman, here’s a headline for you … “On left-wing sites, the Parental Rights in Education bill is now universally referred to as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. On its way into the mainstream.” And by left-wing sites, we mean the Washington Post.
Heads up: the idea of accusing anyone who supports treating gay people as full members of society of being pedophiles is SPREADING FAST on the right.
On right wing sites, "Don't Say Gay" is now universally referred to as the "Anti-Groomer Bill." On its way into the mainstream. https://t.co/3pz5ZV8Tdl

Waldman seems triggered by a piece by Rod Dreher in The American Conservative and by the belief that the word groomer refers exclusively to gay adults who are trying to shape the sexuality of young children, so “groomer” is homophobic. Never mind the trans teacher who showed off their “Making your kids queer since 2020” needlepoint on Facebook. Sorry, but our definition of groomer isn’t limited to gays, so we don’t feel a damn bit of shame about referring to Florida’s “anti-groomer” legislation.
Woke Disney is in an impossible situation. It'll never be woke enough for activist employees, but its attempt to soothe woke internal butthurt by saying the quiet part out loud has been leaked and gone viral, antagonizing normies in its customer base.
— Rod Dreher (@roddreher) March 30, 2022
Dreher writes:
This is the alleged “don’t say gay” part:
Classroom instruction by school personnel or third parties on sexual orientation or gender identity may not occur in kindergarten through grade 3 or in a manner that is not age appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards.
That’s it. Don’t teach kids aged five through nine about sexual orientation or gender identity, except within defined standards. This is because in many schools, little kids were being exposed to all kinds of information that their parents believe they aren’t ready for.
This is common sense legislation that protects children and the rights of parents. If you ever wondered whether or not the Walt Disney Company was on the side of parents and families, wonder no more: they aren’t. They are Woke Capitalists. More cynically, they know they have more to fear from angry LGBT employees, allies, and their many allies in the media than they do from America’s parents and families, who are going to keep consuming Disney products no matter what.
We read Dreher’s whole piece and he doesn’t even use the term “groomer” or “Anti-Groomer Bill.” He probably didn’t even write the headline. So watch out, everyone … right-wingers are starting to call “Don’t Say Gay” by another fake name.
Yes, and good

Maybe we can all agree on "teachers don't explain sex to small children bill"
— Anthony (@hetiestsin) March 30, 2022
See, conservatives view it as an anti- groomer bill. You say it’s a “don’t say gay” bill. That doesn’t mean conservatives think those two ideas are equivalent. They think you’re misrepresenting the bill.

The fact that you have to lie relentlessly about the subject and content of the law, coupled with the anti-grooming content of the law itself (90% of the text!), makes it pretty clear what the real objection is.
— A.F. Eichel 🔮 (@eichel_af) March 30, 2022
There is no "Don't Say Gay" bill. If your cause is so righteous, why do you need to keep lying about it?
— jimtreacher.substack.com (@jtLOL) March 30, 2022
Dude, no one is painting the gay community with that broad a brush. But why would you defend teaching kindergarteners about sex?
— Mariah (@paperdoll1986) March 30, 2022
Maybe you should stop lying about the bill and appearing like you want teachers talking about sex to kindergarteners.
The issue is the problem for you, not the messaging.

Does the bill have the words “don’t say gay” anywhere in it? Does it even have the word “gay”? Just curious. That would make a pretty big difference.
— UNREAL (@realitytrashcan) March 30, 2022
No, the idea that adults shouldn't be teaching sexual content to small children is spreading fast. Nothing to do with how gays are treated
— Jordon Jindra (@hover389) March 30, 2022
What do you call someone who wants to explicitly teach 6 year-olds about sex? Calling the FL parental rights in education bill the 'anti-groomer bill' is far more accurate than calling it the 'Don't Say Gay bill'

If you didn't want normal people to notice how much you want to talk to toddlers about gender/sexuality, you shouldn't have chosen that hill to die on.
— YelloPaddedCell (@YelloPaddedCell) March 30, 2022
And yet they will die on this hill. They’ve fully committed themselves to the position that sexual orientation and gender identity should be taught as early as kindergarten, and they’re going to stick with it right through the midterms.
