Peter Fimrite says he’s a 30-year veteran of the San Francisco Chronicle, so we know he wasn’t born yesterday. He’s sharing an opinion piece published in the Washington Post claiming that the Supreme Court confirmation hearings for Ketanji Brown Jackson were less about “advise and consent” and more about “smear and degrade.” We’re not sure how she was smeared; for being soft on possessors of child porn? She defended her sentences and said that sentencing guidelines need to be updated for the internet age.
Never has a confirmation hearing been less about law and more about partisan point-scoring and presidential campaign-launching. Forget advise and consent. This is smear and degrade. https://t.co/Arx3gr8X1X

Presidential campaign-launching? Does anybody remember the showboating by both Sens. Kamala Harris and Cory Booker during the Brett Kavanaugh hearings? Remember Booker’s “I am Spartacus” moment? Come on, man.
You just start paying attention this week?

Were you in a coma for Kavanaugh? ACB???
— S k y (@Skkyyyyyyyyyyy) March 26, 2022
Apparently, you missed the Thomas, Barrett and Kavanaugh hearings
— LisaMo (@LisaMoMentor2) March 26, 2022
Have you never seen a confirmation hearing before today?

It’s demeaning & shows your contempt for her that you believe Judge Jackson would just sit there & not eviscerate any senator who’d “degraded” or “smeared” her in that hearing. She’s a skilled trial lawyer. And if she’d been smeared, you’d have heard her loud & fucking clear.

She’s a grown woman being quizzed about her professional record. Stop infantilizing her.

I must have missed the part where she was smeared and degraded as a gang rapist.

We’re you abducted by aliens 2017-2020 or are you just dishonest?
They accused Kav of gang rape without evidence and in front of his children. They said ACB was in a Handmaid’s Cult because she’s religious and has a lot of kids.
All KBJ is facing is her own record.

@sfchronicle are all your writers this historically ignorant?
— Tom 🇺🇸🌲 Not a Biologist (@tomspants405) March 26, 2022
They accused Kavanaugh of drugging the punch at high school parties and organizing gang rapes, but of course, he knows that.
The tantrum that certain commentators are throwing over Sasse anointing he will vote no on KBJ due to her judicial philosophy is rather revealing of their expectation of double standards. Not one of these people similarly complained when every Senate Dem voted no on ACB.

Obama’s two SCOTUS justices got meaningful #s of GOP votes, despite philosophical differences (5 for EK, 9 for SS), then:
94% of Senate Dems voted against Gorsuch
98% of them voted against Kavanaugh
and 100% of them voted against ACB.
None of those votes were about CV’s. https://t.co/bvitbckjGI
