It’s amazing that the last people that will be required to wear masks are those who face the least danger from the coronavirus. We’ve been assured recently that it’s “pretty obvious” Sen. Mitt Romney is the Republican most likely to defeat Joe Biden in 2024. Part of the thinking is that Romney could appeal to Democrats who have buyer’s remorse about Biden, but Romney would also have to pick up some Republican votes, and he doesn’t seem eager to do that.
At a meeting of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP), Romney was the sole Republican to side with Democrats in voting to keep a mask mandate for toddlers in Head Start.

Shame on @MittRomney and every senator in this room who just voted to keep toddlers in masks. I am happy to bring my 2-year-old to meet with any one of you to show you how insane it is to ask parents to cover their 2-year-olds faces with a worthless piece of cloth. https://t.co/gNXfqhhgRW

Seriously, I will bring my 2-year-old to your office tomorrow. If you want to force her to mask, let's see you do it.

Would have been better to take a walk and duck the vote … he's good at that. https://t.co/4aDr3u3EKe

Not so coincidentally, Romney also joined with Senate Democrats to vote down a joint resolution to do away with the mask mandate on public transportation:
Senate NOW voting on a joint resolution by Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) to repeal the COVID-19 mask mandate on public transportation via the Congressional Review Act. Simple majority is needed.

Romney is the first Senate Republican to vote No against Paul's resolution to repeal CDC COVID-19 mask-wearing rule on public transportation

At least we can count on Sen. Joe Manchin:
Both West Virginia Senators Manchin (D) and Capito (R) voted Yes for repealing the CDC COVID-19 mask rule on public transportation.

The old breed of GOP need to retire to private life and never resurface in the public eye. No CNN contracts, no Bulwark/Dispatch bylines. https://t.co/dXoFoBWgNk

We’ve seen way too much of Romney this week; he needs to go into hiding.
