There have been a lot of hot takes about President Joe Biden’s pledge to nominate a black woman to the Supreme Court. This would be the first black woman on the court, but advocates and scholars tell Bloomberg that it’s not just about being “first” — it’s about “injecting new lived experiences” into deliberations, kind of like how Sonia Sotomayor brought that “wise Latina” flavor with her.
Biden's pledge to nominate a Black woman to the Supreme Court isn't just about having a "first" on the bench, it's about injecting new lived experiences & world views, advocates & scholars tell @JenHijaz https://t.co/PLF2AmceyG

Think about how vapid and shallow that statement is.
— Boxhawker (@boxhawker) January 28, 2022
Ummm, they just need to have the intellect & knowledge to uphold the Constitution
— Lightning (@Lightni12092685) January 27, 2022
I thought their job was to interpret the law not make the law? Seems to me you don’t need all of these lived experiences.
— Joe Williams (@JoeWillTweet1) January 28, 2022
Aren’t SCOTUS judges only there to neutrally interpret the laws of the Land and determine whether lower courts followed them to the letter in their judgements? The nominee will be vetted for their ability to be impartial and non-activist, correct?

Exactly

The law is the law, the constitution is the Constitution regardless of your lived experiences. This isn’t an ideology contest, this is who can follow the law and the Constitution verbatim.
— Tim Bates, 46th President (@batestimbo) January 27, 2022
LOL, judges are supposed to "uphold the law" regardless of their "lived experiences and world views"!
But liberals want judges who will subject the Constitution to their feelings.
— SwissArmyTenor (@SwissArmyTenor) January 27, 2022
I call B.S. (and it's glaringly obvious to anyone with any working brain cells). This is 100% ideology and has NOTHING to do with "injecting new lived experience". Give me a break with this load of horseshit.
— Desdicato ego redemi (@Desdicato123) January 27, 2022
ACB and Thomas both brought vastly new lived experiences and world views to the Court. They were both viciously opposed.
— Shane Rider 🇺🇸 (@shaneriderMA) January 27, 2022
We remember when MSNBC described Amy Coney Barrett as “very Catholic,” and Chris Cuomo said her faith made her different from an “ordinary Catholic,” and Senator Dianne Feinstein told Barrett, “The dogma lives loudly within you.” They weren’t interested in her “lived experience.”
SCHOLARS!!!
— Alvaroidz (@Alvaroidz) January 27, 2022
EVERY SCOTUS candiate "injects new lived experiences and world views". What meaningless word salad.
— That One Guy Who Is Always Right. (@RickLazzarini) January 27, 2022
New age pablum. Everyone brings unique experiences to the job.
Suggesting that only people you agree with offer "new lived experiences" is self-serving and dishonest.
— Keith Burgin – The Toxic Something Podcast (@KeithBurgin) January 27, 2022
How about Asian lived experiences? There is not one Asian on the bench, what about Indian? Why limit to black women?
— rt; twofold (@thereald0rt) January 27, 2022
You know, we notice how differently you guys treat black, female and other identities when it suits you and when it doesn't
Its not just cynical, it's incredibly bigoted
— B (@wastetime) January 27, 2022
Remember when Clarence Thomas’s lived experiences weren’t enough? Like growing up in the segregated south and overcoming racism at every turn
— Asonjay Inchclay (@Clinchah) January 27, 2022
It's actually because the left are racist and have some stupid white savior complex.
— Chris (@Chalk_Demon) January 27, 2022
See, this is nonsense. Under this logic, Clarence Thomas, Amy Coney Barrett, and Janice Rogers Brown all bring “new lived experiences” etc. but liberals still viciously oppose them. It’s all about ideology. Don’t let them gaslight you. https://t.co/SPMaHMr6qv
