We all know that President Joe Biden’s job approval numbers are horrible, but he’s really lost ground with people under 30. A YouGov/Economist poll shows a 50-point drop in support for Biden among those under 30 since the previous poll, taken January 26.

It was only January 30 when Biden got hit with a stunning ratio thanks to young people wondering where those $2,000 checks were that Biden promised would “go out the door immediately” if Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff were elected to the Senate.
The precise reason for the decline is hard to nail down. It's most likely that there's a confluence of factors that make Biden appear as not progressive enough for young adults (which is probably true?) that have driven down their views of him as the contrast vs Trump wanes

It probably is true that Biden isn’t progressive enough for the under-30 set, many of whom voted for Bernie Sanders in the primary. It also can’t help that Biden campaigned on canceling up to $10,000 of student loan debt, which isn’t going to happen.

No healthcare expansion.
No permanent child tax credit.
No investment in fighting climate change.
No student loan forgiveness.
No reduction in drug costs.
No voting rights protection.
No minimum wage increase.
No universal pre-K.

It’s pretty remarkable how Biden can be seen as such an abject failure by both progressives and conservatives.
Pretty sure him trying to pass off student loan debt forgiveness onto Congress earlier in the year, followed by straight up saying he’s not canceling anything, and in fact he’s restarting it in January, in the middle of Covid, could have something to do with it.

Curious what the measured "excitement" or enthusiasm levels were for Biden back pre-election among this same age group. Could it be younger voters were never excited about him as a candidate to begin with and approval is meeting those low expectations?

For younger voters, this is their first time through the disappointment cycle that inevitably follows the election of a Democratic president (since Clinton), so their rapid disillusion is understandable.
