As Twitchy reported back in June, country band Lady Antebellum decided to go along with the trend of purging anything Confederate-sounding and announced on Instagram they’d from here on out be known as “Lady A.” The only problem is that there is a black blues singer who goes by “Lady A” who’s been performing for 20 years under the name. “For them to not even reach out is pure privilege,” she said.
Now it looks like the whole thing is going to end up in an ugly lawsuit, with the newly woke band filing suit against the blues singer for use of the name.
The Hollywood Reporter writes:
“Today we are sad to share that our sincere hope to join together with Anita White in unity and common purpose has ended,” the group said in a statement. “She and her team have demanded a $10 million payment, so reluctantly we have come to the conclusion that we need to ask a court to affirm our right to continue to use the name Lady A, a trademark we have held for many years.”
So the white country group changed its name to appease Black Lives Matter and is now suing a black blues singer who offered them the name for a mere $10 million. That’s not a good look for anybody, but especially the band.

Because of #BlackLivesMatter, Lady Antebellum changed their name to @ladya. The woman pictured below, Anita White, had been performing under that name for more than a decade. The 3 white liberals are suing her over it now. #Popcorn https://t.co/yxmLWTpkXs pic.twitter.com/uAAfHwiGu9

Lady Antebellum stole the name of a black blues singer so they could do a #blacklivesmatter virtue signal and now they're suing her. Typical liberal poseurs…

They’re suing a Black blues singer who had the name first? LOL

Nice optics on this one.
“Let’s sue a black woman so we can use her name to show everyone that we care about black lives”— Valannin (@valannin) July 8, 2020
Shouldn’t this be the other way around?

We'll, now we know what the "A" stands for.

Such a sad pitiful show. I hope Anita white gets an injunction preventing
Antebellum from using her name. Cave to the mob and suffer the consequences.— Thomas Jefferson (@jeff1743_thomas) July 8, 2020
1) She had it first
2) Lady A is fine for a performer but a terrible name for a band
3) Lady A stands for Lady Antebellum, it is just an abbreviation of the same name, if you are going to change it pick a new name.
4) They are famous for their music not their brains. pic.twitter.com/ERrCvVVcbj— TVandBeers (@TVandBeers) July 8, 2020
So some white people got woke, changed their name and now are suing a black artist. 2020 is lit.

Lady Antebellum held the trademark for the nickname “Lady A” since 2010. Anita White probably could’ve gotten a couple hundred thousand dollars out of the band, but she asked for 10 million and now she’ll probably get nothing.
— Boomieleaks (@Boomieleaks) July 8, 2020
Solid take — no way should could demonstrate in court that the name she’d built up was worth $10 million. But the optics …
Their lead singer was overheard saying, "by the time this is over, we're going to own that woman!"
— InTheRightColumn (@TheRightColumn) July 8, 2020
The group says they have held the trademark for more than a decade. But they could have avoided the whole thing if they had just kept their original name. Was anyone even asking them to change it?
— Jr (@JrVarTeam) July 8, 2020
WTF, this is a confoundedly bad move. So basically hearing Black Lives Matter made them drop antebellum for "branding purposes" but evidenced here they've learned absolutely nothing from it.
— Romina Jones (@Andabeat) July 8, 2020
What they should have learned was to tell the mob to GFY.

Get woke, go broke.
