Charles C. W. Cooke skewers Jennifer Rubin's disdain for those who didn't go to college

As Twitchy reported this week, Expert™ Tom Nichols shared that listening to the House impeachment debate on the radio, he was struck by how President Trump’s defenders all had “similar speech patterns and accents.” “Seems to me the GOP is headed for becoming a rump regional party of the South and the mountains,” he tweeted.

Washington Post conservative blogger Jennifer Rubin felt compelled to add her take:

National Review’s Charles C. W. Cooke has been writing about disdain for the non-college educated for some time and spoke up:

My Dad left school at 15, served in the Air Force, started his own business, and eventually went to college when he was 64. Was he a lesser citizen until he hit retirement age? Was his father, a carpenter, less generally useful? That’s increasingly the implication, I’m afraid.

This isn’t an argument against college. I went, and enjoyed it. It’s an argument for appreciating people who don’t take that path—people who have real, admirable, useful skills, and are just as much citizens as everyone else. America does not need a clerisy.

America's premiere man of letters, Sam Clemens, had little in the way of formal education, and no college; yet on his worst day, he was a hundred times the writer and thinker Ms. Rubin will ever be.

Rubin has a focused education, she writes and condescendes well. However she wouldn't know the first thing about operating a Nuclear Power Plant to keep her electricity on, or running a farm to keep food on the table.

She is the epitome of an Ivory Tower Liberal.

I read her piece where she talks about this. It’s just a lot of words to divide people into an “us vs them” situation. It’s a way for @JRubinBlogger and those like her to feel morally superior to someone who chose, or didn’t have the opportunity to attend college. Terrible.

You show Rubin far more grace than she deserves. The pre-judgemental disdain she shows towards an entire segment of the population reminds me of similar attitudes I saw growing up in the rural south. Those were about education levels, however. Her heart is the same as theirs.

It is the way most theological and ideological groups band together with the like-minded, are gratified in their righteousness, and disdain and disparage who they view as uniformed. Leftists have been insidious in their use of force, the state, even death to achieve their means.

My grandfather was a bricklayer, he built himself into a millionaire through hard work and investing. And Jennifer thinks people like my grandpa are bad or "dumb". I may have a university degree, but he's far smarter than I am.

I'm just a dumb master electrician who never went to college and I'm OK with the fact Jennifer Rubin doesn't like me.

She also can't troubleshoot the simplest of series-parallel circuits.
