We can’t remember who said it, but someone suggested a nightmare scenario when the summer of 2020 could include the presidential campaigns, an impeachment trial, and hearings to replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg.
The impeachment trial is looking like it might actually materialize, but the timing of it could be interesting. Sean at RealClearPolitics wonders what it would be like if Senate Majority Leader Mitch “Cocaine” McConnell got creative with the scheduling.
It's gonna be lit when McConnell schedules a six-week Senate impeachment trial that all Senators are required to attend, silently, starting a week before Iowa.

Popcorn and soda with a straw!

You just know that McConnell is going to have a blast with this.

You know that’s where we’re headed.

That’s exactly what he’s going to do
— Gordon Plutsky (@GordonPlutsky) November 7, 2019
I mean, if the impeachment vote comes between Thanksgiving and Christmas, that's sort of the natural timing.

Are the Dems "really" required to attend?

Yes

They will cry “election interference “ ?

Kamala will be out by then, so that’ll only affect Bernie
— Michael A. Lewis (@MichaelALewis73) November 7, 2019
Klobuchar, Bennet and Harris will already be toast by then, or about to be dropped in the toaster. But the lefties would get screwed—which, when you think about it, is probably not exactly what McConnell wants.

Unless he thinks Trump is likely to lose to any of them.

And empowers Joe Biden and Pete Buttigieg over Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders?
— Danny Funaro (@Danny_Funaro) November 6, 2019
If you think Trump has a real chance of losing to any Democrat, this would be a preferred outcome.
— Sean T at RCP (@SeanTrende) November 6, 2019
Pretty sure Joe Biden and Pete Buttigieg are hoping for this outcome.

The Democrats deserve whatever they get. Scumbags have been talking impeachment even before Trump locked up the nomination.
— Eagle (@EagleGraphs) November 7, 2019
Senate can just dismiss impeachment. Plus they'll be too busy with the new SCOTUS nominee.@gabrielmalor
— MarshS (@MarshS23245318) November 7, 2019
It would be wild seeing all the senators currently out on the campaign trail stuck in the Capitol Building doing their jobs.
