The immense scope of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’ Green New Deal made it perfectly clear that it had to do with a lot more than just addressing climate change. Ocasio-Cortez is a democratic socialist, after all, and remaking the American economy is a big part of what she, and a lot of climate change alarmists, are all about.
HuffPost editor Nora Biette-Timmons found herself added to a Twitter Moment Tuesday after posting about our current “climate emergency” and the need to move away from capitalism:
11,000 scientists have declared we are in a climate emergency. Among other things, we need to move away from capitalism and instead prioritize “sustaining ecosystems and improving human well-being by prioritizing basic needs and reducing inequality.” https://t.co/EVofxi58WO

No, but really, how can we possibly “solve” climate change under our current economic system?
my tweet was added to a moment so truly RIP my menchies but do ppl really think … that we can solve climate change … in our current economic system … which is designed to exploit all available resources w/ no regard for anything but profit?

If anything can, capitalism will.

Do grown-ups really think that the evil capitalist in Dr. Seuss’ “The Lorax” wouldn’t have been planting more trees if he were making money off of them?
You’re pretty transparent.

I don't think it's just capitalism that's got you down, Nora. It's this whole crazy system that prioritizes individual freedom over you telling everybody what to do.
I'm sorry this is happening to you.— Judge Smails (@JSmails) November 6, 2019
Go for a jog in any city in China. Spend the night in Chernobyl. Climate change is a secular religion, complete with apocalyptic predictions of doom. Its a fiction whose aim is to control society.
— Patrick Grattan (@PatrickGrattan) November 6, 2019
People will always try to justify their power grabs, be it religion, equality, or now "save the planet".
"designed to exploit all available resources" – it's to make it better for ourselves. If doing that in the long run makes it worse, we'll change base on that reason alone.— Erlend Strømsvik (@erlendstromsvik) November 6, 2019
Always knew that end goal of most of the vocal climate change activists is socialism and implementing liberal policies. Good that they are out in the open.

Socialistic societies like the Soviet Union and pre-capitalist China had horrid environmental records. Markets aren’t the issue here. Plenty of places are proving you can be green while still capitalist.
— Nick Pappas (@NickAPappas) November 6, 2019
If only we could have an environmental track record like the Chinese.

Can't wait for your 5 Year Plan on the matter
— Lunar Lad (@MegaUltraMoon) November 6, 2019
Look at the enviro damage in the Soviet Union and China.
Both with non-capitalist systems and worse results.
Empirically no modern system does better, or much worse than capitalism.
If you think this is the cause? Think again ??♂️

Worlds top two polluters are China and India. China is officially communist, state planning, quasi capitalist, and India is a developing economy. Europe and America, both longstanding capitalist societies, are drawing back their footprints.
So, no. "Capitalism" isnt the problem.
— PopPsyOps (@PopPsyOps) November 6, 2019
The US, while withdrawing from the Paris Accords, is the only original signatory meeting the goals set out by that agreement – entirely because of market forces.
Meanwhile, the worst polluter and emitter in the world is a Communist state.

and boom, the root purpose of the Church of Climate Change: defeat free market Capitalism
— Swarley (@boogerflickin) November 6, 2019
Half true:
1) Defeat capitalism
2) Establish state socialismThanks, Green New Deal. I had no idea that social justice will magically save us from extinction in 10 years.
— JackJames (@kngofstrngs) November 6, 2019
This makes sense. If we use the environment as a tool to usher in communism, we can then use communism to kill hundreds of millions, therefore helping the environment. pic.twitter.com/XuMVgMhYvU

We definitely need to move the whole world to a communist regime. Just like Venezuela. That is our only hope.

The climate has always been changing. There is nothing to solve. Our current economic system is the only one that works. Curing cancer would be a noble goal for scientists. Have a great day.

You people are delusional. And you’ve convinced yourselves political philosophy is “science” (how you ppl have hijacked the word and concept of “science” is stoopidness for another time).
— Waitman T. Willey (@imawhig) November 6, 2019
This is a clueless and distorted interpretation of capitalism. The market is already showing that consumers are capable of voluntarily making greener choices. Of course we all know what your real agenda is.
— Jimmy (@Canyonaro) November 6, 2019
Your tweet was based on the same "science" that has been telling me since I was a child that the planet would be uninhabitable by the year 2000. You are gullible and easily manipulated by those that want the absolute power of totalitarian communism.
— MAGA2020 (@MAGAx2020) November 6, 2019
This argument is so terribly shallow and has zero depth or nuance. People are waking up. No more zero sum bologna. Life doesn't work that way unless we're talking about planet ending asteroid, then, well….who cares.
