We’ve done a bunch of threads compiling tweets (or screenshots of deleted tweets) where politicians, celebrities, and journalists raced to condemn the racist and homophobic attack on “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett. We’ve also seen CNN’s Brian Stelter trying to rewrite history, claiming that the alleged attack was marked by “really careful reporting by news organizations.”
One tweet that’s resurfaced Monday is this gem by the Washington Post’s global opinion editor:
Regarding the heinous attack on @JussieSmollett, yet another reminder that Trump’s ascendance and the resulting climate of hate has meant that lives have been increasingly at stake since 2015.
Smollett could have been killed by those thugs screaming MAGA. Let that sink in.

Funny, we haven’t heard much recently about those “thugs screaming MAGA” since those two brothers of Nigerian descent were questioned.
We do agree, though, that lives have been increasingly at stake since 2015 … just ask Rep. Steve Scalise, who was shot by a nut who opened fire on a Republican baseball team.
Okay. It's sunk in.
Now what?

Ummm. Ok. I let it sink in. Those "thugs" as you describe them were pretty big. And they could have killed their friend in that debacle.
But, I think we all can agree, it's not Trump's fault the Nigerian brothers decided to attack #JussieSmollett https://t.co/Z217vSS9ej

Remember, CNN tells us only entertainment media was peddling the MAGA myth.

It's just a reminder, hate crimes are so rare in this country per capita, you have pay people to manufacture them to further your twisted narrative that this is a hateful nation. https://t.co/PhIUAPcbFW

Just another hoax. The climate of hate was under the previous administration when cities burned for months. Baltimore/Ferguson if you suffer from situational amnesia.
