You have to be careful with names. Twitter just made it clear that you can be banned for “deadnaming” someone; that is, using a trans person’s birth name rather than the one they picked to match their new gender.
And now there’s “name shaming,” which has happened to a lot of people (like a certain high school classmate whose parents had named him Kermit in the late ’60s, for example).
This video has been going around for a couple of days, and in it a mother alleges that Southwest Air employees made fun of her daughter’s name, which is Abcde (pronounced AB-city, duh).
Name shaming? This Texas woman claims a @SouthwestAir agent made fun of her 5-year-old daughter's name as they were preparing to board their flight at @JohnWayneAir in Orange County.

“Accused of being awful to a five-year-old girl because of her unique name.” And that name again is Abcde.

The fact that the alphabet letters strung together must be followed by: ‘it’s pronounced’ tells me everything I needed. Give your child an odd name, expect odd reactions.
— Mary (@doubledittos) November 29, 2018
She’s been waiting for this moment since she gave birth
— Nick B. ??? (@SpeakThenThink) November 29, 2018
They shouldn’t make fun of the name. Just make fun of the idiotic mom for naming the poor child that.

My 8 year-old son Everlast keeps getting punched by the neighbood kids for some reason.
— Sam Valley (@SamValley) November 29, 2018
I hope that child changes her name when she turns 18. No one will take her seriously in life. Resumes will be thrown away thinking some moron was pranking them with a stupid name.

Hey! Be nice!
Looks like mommy is getting EXACTLY the publicity she was aiming for when she filled out that birth certificate!

English Teacher: fine then! You teach the alphabet!
Math Teacher: let me guess… your last name is 12345!?
Classmates: has anyone seen abcdeeeeeez nuts!?

My wife is an educator and had a student with the same name. There was another student attending a different school my wife taught, named La-a (pronounced 'la-DASH-uh' – "the dash ain't silent," as the parent said).

Let's all be honest this child has had her named laughed at since she was born. All the mothers friends laugh at it.
This is just the first time she faced someone who wouldn't laugh behind her back.— Timothy (@Twhauen) November 29, 2018
Me and my son, Fghij found this quite amusing.
— ?J.J?️ (@Jonbydesign) November 29, 2018
Did she NOT anticipate this very situation?? I'm not condoning an adult mocking a child in public – I'm just saying that this WILL be a REGULAR THING for her daughter. I don't have an H in my name and I was mocked… Children aren't kind. And shitty teachers are everywhere!
— Cristine (@Owl_ofthewoods) November 29, 2018
She named her child ABCDE and is appalled because someone said something funny? So Mom, why didn't you just name your child, Abcity? I would have said: Will the Alphabet person please sing yourself forward?
— Cedarflame (@Cedarflame) November 29, 2018
I'm sympathetic. My daughter 12345 was once was verbally abused by a mob of innumerates.
— David Phaneuf (@davidphan416) November 29, 2018
Isn't this a form of child abuse and/or neglect because of future humiliation?
— Molly M. Tennant (@OrangeTwinkie) November 29, 2018
Seems like everyone’s on the same page here.
— Shaun Plander (@the_Plando) November 29, 2018
OMG, Has she tried not being a cruel parent if she doesn't want her daughter mocked forever? That poor girl, this is just the first time she'll be mocked for this?

Was the mother reprimanded at all for naming her daughter Abcde ?
— KZaje (@kgz00) November 29, 2018
Congrats, now the entire internet is making fun of her. Nice one, mom
— Joe Z (@jtzim123) November 29, 2018
She thinks that’s bad? Just wait until her daughter starts school next year.. She did that child wrong.

Mom better homeschool little Alphabits or she's going to be making a new video every week during elementary school. ???
— Anakin's Lightsaber (@skywalker_saber) November 29, 2018
You shouldn't pick the name while still on the painkillers. Seriously though. ABCDE is pronounced, "You're not important enough for me to put any effort into choosing your name."

I am now laughing at her daughter's name. Sue me.

Hospital: Wouldn’t it be funny if I named my child after the first five letters of the alphabet.
Five Years Later: It’s not very funny when people mock my child’s name.
