We actually saw tweets about this floating around Wednesday night, but we were hoping someone would come through with video or audio, and on Thursday Larry Elder delivered.
CNN’s Chris Cuomo, speaking with Don Lemon, thought that Andrew Gillum’s primary victory Tuesday night in the race for Florida governor was pretty historic:
.@ChrisCuomo called Fla dem primary winner "the 1st black candidate for governor of a major state."
WRONG
Calif: Bradley ran as dem nominee in 1982 & 1986.
Penn: Swann ran as GOP nominee in '06.
Ohio: Blackwell ran as GOP nominee in '06.
Gov's Wilder & Patrick don't count?

And here’s a link to audio of the exchange:
What's worse–that @ChrisCuomo falsely claimed that Florida's Gillum is "the first African-American nominee for governor of a major state like Florida" or that @donlemon didn't correct him? Listen:https://t.co/MQjTUEk0DI#FakeNewsCNN

OMG, Carl McCall won the 2002 Democrat nomination for NY Governor over Cuomo’s own BROTHER!
— CTIronman (@CTIronman) August 30, 2018
H. Carl McCall beat a guy named Andrew Cuomo for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination in a little place called…NEW YORK. https://t.co/4x5snmq1Mr https://t.co/Qs5Dgt8fbS

Well, Cuomo technically withdrew from the race, but still … there’s a bit of family history there.
I'm sure Cuomo will remind people he withdrew from the race. Yeah, a week before primary day and his name was still on the ballot.
He "quit" because he was going to get killed and wanted to stay viable in the future. He was taking a TON of heat for trying to block McCall.

McCall was the first African-American to be elected statewide in NY (Comptroller) and was trying to be the first black Governor.
Andrew Cuomo getting in the way of that didn't play too well.
Yeah, he's always been *that* guy.

Those are FACTS Cuomo never researched? But he is scripted by his #FakeNews network

Major state Chris ? Some states are better than others?
— Terry Kern (@crapsplayer58) August 30, 2018
I guess Virginia and Massachusetts are not major states like Florida

When do we get the first left-handed black candidate?

Maybe Cuomo should read CNN’s own website: “Democrat Andrew Gillum’s breakthrough victory in the Florida primary this week made him the party’s third African-American nominee for governor in 2018.”
But we’ll guess CNN will stand by their reporting, insisting that “in a major state” makes Cuomo’s statement true.
