We’re guessing that the Becoming American Initiative assumes that Democrats, liberals, and MSNBC viewers are well aware that America is a nation of immigrants, so the organization is buying airtime on Fox News to remind Republicans and conservatives of that fact.
This ad will air tomorrow morning, July 4th, on selected stations including Fox News, to remind our fellow Americans, Republicans and conservatives that we are a nation of immigrants, and stronger for it. pic.twitter.com/3XdKAeFVTU

The ad even features the untouchable Ronald Reagan to solidify its conservative credentials. Reagan!
Great video about legal immigration
— Joseph Palumbo (@josephpalumbo4) July 3, 2018
Everyone agrees with that.
But you forgot the word 'legal.'
— Rusty Weiss ??? (@rustyweiss74) July 3, 2018
Legal immigrants that assimilated into our country to make our great country! #FourthofJuly #4thofJuly
— Catherine Siena (@1catherinesiena) July 3, 2018
And may I remind you that we welcome legal immigrants with open arms everyday.
— Drew Foster (@foster402) July 3, 2018
I think we all know that Bill.
— Mike Logsdon (@mdlogsdon) July 3, 2018
*A nation of *legal* immigrants. Why is that so hard to understand?
— Elizabeth (@fullhousemomma) July 4, 2018
Does the commercial mention the difference between legal and illegal immigrants?
— ?Jay?Baker? (@Another_BaldGuy) July 3, 2018
You meant citizens, right
— Tom McGovern (@jefe_viejo) July 3, 2018
Narrator: Bill went full liberal, conflating illegal and legal immigration in order to unfairly tar those who disagree with him
— Frank (@FHughesAuthor) July 3, 2018
I’m actually old enough to remember when you were conservative!
— lou (@CaddyshackLou) July 4, 2018
You're kidding right?!? You must think we're stupid. Americans know the difference between legal immigrants and illegals.
— wilma armstrong (@meandmypuppy) July 4, 2018
Can't help but notice Reagan said they came through the door, not a window or sneaking across the border, Bill. Also, we aren't a nation of immigrants, most Americans were born here. You aren't where your ancestors were from, that's liberal identity politics crap. #ProudAmerican https://t.co/2g3798ANFx

I'm still confused why people think Trump hates immigrants…he has referred to ILLEGAL immigrants. His wife is a legal immigrant. I didn't vote for Trump but I'm sick and tired of this deliberate misdirection. Shame on you, @BillKristol for continuing to give it fuel.
— Mawnstroe (@Mawnstroe) July 3, 2018
Don't mind Bill, he's one of the fossil conservatives who is pretending he doesn't know the difference between 11 MILLION illegals and LEGAL immigration.
We have alot of these dinosaurs in Canada too, so if he dislikes Trump, that's the sign to support Trump.
— Honorary American (@honoraryamerica) July 3, 2018
No one is against immigrants here legally, it’s the illegal invaders trying to jump the line and take from , not give to, this country. Obfuscation is not a good thing, but anything for the cause.
— Rob Womack (@Rojowo) July 3, 2018
In that video, was that Ellis Island? I believe it was. Immigrants came legally had their information collected so we knew who they were, some were quarantined, some were sent back. Immigration is not a free pass!!
— Politically Incorrect ? Caps fan 4eva (@fistsballedup) July 3, 2018
Such as my family from Eastern Europe. They were quarantined, examined medically, and asked if they were communists. I would not have wanted it any other way. They then went on to various branches of the armed forces.
— Mike20172018 (@Mike20172020) July 3, 2018
My families grandparents on both sides came here legally. They came through Ellis Island. They had the spelling of their names changed by the employees at the port of entry; they were found to be mentally and physically ok; moved on to learn English; raise families and own land.

I am 2nd generation in the #USA ??
My Grandparents were #legal #immigrants
who came through #EllisIsland ?
My son is a #legal #immigrant ??
Please don't try to explain to why #IllegalImmigration
is acceptable—Its not.— Greg Staub (@StaubGreg) July 3, 2018
Legal immigrants, coming through all of the correct ports, following all of the correct processes as my family did 120 years ago … did your family sneak in @BillKristol ?
— Tom Martino (@tom_martino1) July 3, 2018
SO TRUE! But these are pictures of ppl being processed through Ellis Island. What's the equivalent on southern border and does everyone from south of the border use it? Hence, not processed immigrants but illegal aliens for crossing our border. HUGE difference wouldn't you say?
— ?? Rene Hesez ❌ (@ReneHesez) July 3, 2018
What fresh hell is this?
— ???️i?️?? (@apipkin11) July 3, 2018
So why the ad directed at conservatives? According to the Becoming American Initiative website:
The modern day misconception is that conservatives do not care about immigrants or immigration reform. We exists [sic] to counter that narrative and provide the conservative case for immigration and DACA reform. We are a nation of immigrants and a nation of laws. One of the best ways to counter illegal immigration is through legal immigration reform.
So … make an ad targeted toward conservatives to disabuse them of the misconception that conservatives don’t care about immigrants or immigration reform? Huh?
