“CBS This Morning” co-anchor Gayle King, along with other journalists, visited a border patrol facility in McAllen, Texas, when children of illegal immigrants are being housed and promptly reported that “the Statue of Liberty, I think, is weeping right now.”
At least it wasn’t as bad as the time CNN’s Jim Acosta read from the poem “The New Colossus” in a press briefing on immigration law and then tweeted it in full for those who didn’t get his point that a poem trumps immigration law.

CNN’s Brian Stelter thought that was worth a mention — he’s a fan of “Facts First” you know.
Gayle King: "All I can say, after talking to the people, watching the people, listening to the people: the Statue of Liberty, I think, is weeping right now." She'll anchor from TX again Tues https://t.co/BJKCSFYNEE

How is it so many people don’t understand that the Statue of Liberty was never intended to be a symbol of immigration? And what, exactly, would it take to make the statue get a hold of itself? Open the border completely and grant blanket asylum to everyone? If so, get busy lobbying Congress.
.@GayleKing seems like the sort of person who thinks the Statue of Liberty poem is law. https://t.co/j5DvFZG8KB
