“Simpsons” voice actor Hank Azaria has addressed the controversy surrounding the character of Apu Nahasapeemapetilon before, but he told Stephen Colbert Tuesday night that it might be time for him to “step aside” from the character.

“Listening to voices means inclusion in the writers’ room,” Azaria told Colbert. “I really want to see Indian, South Asian writers in the room, not in a token way, but genuinely informing whatever new direction this character may take, including how it is voiced or not voiced. You know, I’m perfectly willing and happy to step aside or help transition it into something new.”

That’s comic Hari Kondabolu, who starred in the 2017 documentary “The Problem With Apu.”
So Azaria’s “willing and happy” to step aside? What if the showrunners say, “Just keep doing what you’ve always done?” Then what?
Tyranny. The man is an artist and he us being stifled by an angry mob… of artists. https://t.co/ZIjxYMahOx

'PC gone bonkers'. People taking offense in the 29th year of a tv series – one that has been enjoyed even by the SE Asian community all these years- because a relative nobody has made a friggin documentary. No wonder the 'liberals' continue to get a bad name #Simpsons https://t.co/mfyFTmII85

To be safe the Simpsons should become 30 minutes of Kent Brockman doing liberal news satire. https://t.co/vnUnRfKc3E
