The Daily Mail reported early Monday morning that a High Court judge had rejected the last-ditch appeal made by the parents of terminally ill 23-month-old Alfie Evans. The Daily Mail reports the court “gave doctors the go-ahead to stop treatment and said Alfie still came under the jurisdiction of British courts” despite being granted Italian citizenship.

The move comes despite Italy having granted citizenship to Alfie Evans in a bid to have him transferred to a hospital in Rome.
Even the pope tweeted Monday in support of Alfie:
Moved by the prayers and immense solidarity shown little Alfie Evans, I renew my appeal that the suffering of his parents may be heard and that their desire to seek new forms of treatment may be granted.

The courts won. No appeal could soften a hardened state that sees citizens as subjects. Prayers up please. https://t.co/XlU2BoHp7Y

Alfie Evans has been sentenced to die, and his life support will be removed against his family's wishes. European courts and @AlderHey Hospital have wrongly kept Alfie captive, refusing to allow his parents to take him to another hospital. #AlfiesArmy https://t.co/5pqSaARNL9

BREAKING: Alder Hey Hospital in the U.K. has removed the life support of toddler Alfie Evans, who is seriously ill. Alfie has been able to sustain his own life for a few hours, but he needs oxygen — and the hospital is refusing to provide it. https://t.co/qSnFUBXXT1

In Britain, you can fly your loved one to Switzerland to end their life. But if you try to fly your son to Italy to preserve his, the police will literally hold him hostage till he dies.

In Britain the death penalty is illegal. In Britain euthanasia is illegal. In Britain 30 policeman are standing guard outside Alfie Evans’ room to ensure his court ordered death proceeds uninterrupted.

#alfieevans Been breathing for over 2 hours now, proved he’s not brain dead. But now hospital are depriving him of oxygen which will ultimately lead to the brain being affected. Worsening his condition. They’d rather a child die than admit to their mistakes.

Dear friends, would you all pray for #AlfieEvans , again we see how within the Culture of Death the weakest and most vulnerable are rejected and even sometimes sentenced to death. https://t.co/CFAKR2sOZT

The UK: Join us in the celebration of the Royal Baby!
Also UK: Sorry this other peasant child is a drain on our nationalized health care system so that one we’ll allow to suffocate.

When the government is paying for services like healthcare, people are treated as commodities, assigned value, and treated according to that assigned value. No one should want the government to have that kind of control.

But they do, oddly, more and more until the idea of government not running their lives is too terrifying.

Not merely withholding oxygen. They are affirmatively and physically preventing the parents from giving the child oxygen themselves. That crosses a line. https://t.co/l45RqL43ZS
