Five former U.S. presidents came together Saturday for a hurricane relief benefit, and ever since then, we’ve been hearing much more from Jimmy Carter. For example, Carter told The New York Times that the media have been harder on Trump than any other president, even suggesting that he’s mentally deranged.
In another surprising statement, Carter told the Times that he doesn’t believe the Russians stole the election from Hillary Clinton (although he conceded that wife Rosalynn disagrees with him on that). “I don’t think there’s any evidence that what the Russians did changed enough votes, or any votes,” Carter said.”

If it seems that Carter, a liberal Democrat, is going soft on Trump, maybe he has an ulterior motive? Check out these hot takes:
This man is playing to the ego of an ??in order to go to N. Korea to deal with a fat nut, this is country over ego n party etc

Relax people. He’s trying to get Trump to like and trust him so he can be an advisor. Might save us from a nuclear catastrophe.

I respect Carter but he is not helping the US by sucking up to Trump to become the envoy to North Korea. He said media is too tough on Trump https://t.co/1DVj09uEHX

Hmm … is it possible that Carter is sucking up to Trump so that Trump will send him to North Korea to negotiate, thus saving the world from imminent nuclear catastrophe? We give that theory a big, fat no.
Still, Carter took a beating from those who didn’t like him denying the Russia connection.
Upon what does he base this assertion? Because the US Intelligence Community isn't so sure. Neither are many investigative reporters.

And in other news, ex-president Jimmy Carter is thought to have early Alzheimer’s .

We’re happy to give Bernie Bro. Carter credit where credit is due.
Jimmy Carter is right, and Democrats won't start winning again until they can admit this fact to themselves. https://t.co/7JtsLGvpdM

I haven’t agreed with Jimmy Carter since he pumped up our nuke deterrent in 1979 but nice to be able to again https://t.co/W2soKYnWsh
