Good question: just how much did Jeb! Bush end up spending per vote in the Iowa caucuses? He began his campaign with money to burn, and for months, political cartoons have shown Bush doing just that, shoveling cash into a steam engine. Nate Silver, editor-in-chief of FiveThirtyEight, has a shocking estimate to report, with Bush standing at about 3 percent of the vote in Iowa with half of the votes reported.

Exactly.

  • badazoth

wow little of topic but ted cruz winning even with his anti ethanol rhetoric that is pretty impressive
he might not win the night but for now his lead is impressive

    • MoxieLouise1

I guess Iowans didn’t care that much about rude mailers 😉

      • badazoth

thank god for that cruz all the way

      • Jake Wilde

The Breitbots are raging angry that Fox dared to list Cruz winning at any point.

        • http://truthbeforedishonor.wordpress.com John Hitchcock

Give them their binkies and they’ll be fine.

        • vetgal1970

Hehe It’s gonna be one ugly night. They are on FOXs facebook page kicking puppies and turning over tables

I love it. I’ve been waiting since the summer for this moment. And it is beautiful.

          • vetgal1970

            Indeed it is

    • grais

Fox just called it for him.
      Thank You Iowa !

      • badazoth

        wow

        • grais

          It’s a beautiful thing.

          • badazoth

            cruz carson
give ben some gravitas till he can take over in 24

          • Ryan Schneider.

Yes! Exactly my thoughts! Then make Rubio speaker, Grahm War secretary, and Paul Treasurer, and find spaces for most of the others. Bush can be ambassador to the Vatican.

      • badazoth

        townhall to

    • NotJim

He should win with anti-ethanol rhetoric. Ethanol is a really, really bad idea that would not have the slightest chance without gov’t subsidy. Of course, many Iowans have a conflict of interest.

      • Ryan Schneider.

It makes no sense without natural tropical rainfall. Irrigation dives the price up to the moon. Argentina is the only sensible place to make it (that has already destroyed most of their rain forest).

        • Perdido

Well, not Argentina. And then, not Corn.

          • NotJim

            Definitely not corn.

I have read that Brazil has had some success with sugar cane, which grows like a weed there. It’s not a big win, but when the price of oil is high enough, it’s sort of viable.

          • Perdido

I lived in Brasil. They used the ethanol in gas because at the time they didn’t know about the huge reserves off-shore. The gas was in there in just enough quantities to light the alcohol.
It worked well. Everyone drove Volks Beetles (Fuscas) and paid through the nose for fuel by the litre.
They derived the alcohol from sugar cane and were having success with sedge grasses.
It wasn’t cheap by any means.

    • Ryan Schneider.

Water shortages make ethanol a boondoggle. Are we really going to, effectively, dump half of what’s left of the Ogallala Aquifer into our gas tanks over the next 30 years? It is already projected to go bone dry within the next 150 years; ethanol could drain it in only 60. Ethanol only makes sense where there is so much rainfall that farmers don’t need irrigation.

      • Perdido

It only makes sense when there is no other fuel source.

  • jhawk90

I could have taken the day off, drove 100 miles south, borrowed my buddy Larry’s DL and lit up all of Decorah for under 5k. Dammit ¡Jeb!!!!

  • http://truthbeforedishonor.wordpress.com John Hitchcock

I like the one showing the brand new car and saying that’s what a vote for Jeb looks like.

    • Knight64

I agree. That’s the one that really put it into perspective for me too.

    • Knight64

      More perspective:
Jeb! only beat me by 2.8% — and I’m not even running!

  • Karla1953

    I couldn’t care less about Jeb…………………but I am loving what I am seeing with Cruz & Rubio………………j/s

    • vetgal1970

      😀 Yahooo

    • MoxieLouise1

Me too! I usually pick the loser.

      • Ethanery

Same, I was beginning to think my support was cursed, somehow 😛

      • Karla1953

I have said all along it is all about the ground game………………and I said that I read/heard that Cruz had a great one. Rubio is the one that has impressed me though. And I know now that not following polls is good for this gal 🙂

    • Giuseppe Franco

Now it’s time for Jeb, Kasich, and Christie to drop out and let Rubio take the ball and run with it.

      • Karla1953

I got to tell ya I have been that undecided person but listening to him right now it is very impressing to listen to him. He does have that American story and love of Country and tonight was a good thing for him way good

        • vetgal1970

I like Rubio a lot but the gang of eight thing was pretty bad. He trusted McCain and when anyone suggested he shouldn’t he had this one particular staffer who was a ‘male appendage’ every time he spoke about it.

          • Karla1953

Yea well for me they all have that one or two things that hold me off or I disagree on, but at some point I either move on or live in the past forever(cannot do that either). So it is what it is but he is impressive to me and in the end I vote for me. Keep in mind though I know how tricky it can be………………….Nixon was my first vote and would vote the same way even knowing what I know now……………

          • vetgal1970

I agree 100%. I like him, I love his story.

          • ToyZebra

I just can’t trust him on immigration and that is one of the most important things.

          • vetgal1970

He was a new senator, I’m inclined to think McCain took advantage of him because of his background and Rubio started out working in good faith. To be fair he doesn’t seem to make deals with Schumer anymore. Come to think of it I don’t hear him running after McCain either

          • vetgal1970

Just trying to keep an open mind about it a little bit. We know the ‘lifers’ who have been there too long will do anything to stay there and anything to look like they are working on a problem without actually solving it

          • Perdido

You better not trust him on SCOTUS picks either…

        • Giuseppe Franco

I’ve been a Rubio supporter since the day he announced his candidacy and that speech along with his family story are the primary reasons why.

He’d crush Hillary Clinton and that should be our goal above anything else.

          • Karla1953

Yea I know that you have…………and I have heard it he is my Senator after all but tonight was different.
I do have to wonder though if he regrets not going to Iowa sooner and really digging in j/s

          • Perdido

Recent polling is showing all but one Republican smashes Hillary in the general election. Trump is only competitive.

      • Maxx

Not one single teleprompter in sight.

        This guy is scary good.

        • Giuseppe Franco

          He certainly is.

Much of what he said in the speech tonight is what he usually says on the stump, but it’s a message that will resonate as the campaign marches on.

I just hope tonight was the beginning of the end of Trump.

Conservatives have won if this nomination comes down to Rubio and Cruz.

    • drw

With 99% in he’s topped the poll prediction by 8% raking in 23% of actual voters.

      • vetgal1970

Rubio did great, I think Jebs donors will move to him

        • Karla1953

I was impressed by him he came in at 23 and Trump at 24……….not shabby at all and NH is next 🙂

  • wrestlefan01

fox just announced cruz wins..donald will be calling the iowa voters stupid again for not voting for him to win

    • vetgal1970

  • Donald-Irredeemable deplorable

So Jeb is burning through other peoples money like any demonrat politician would, and he’s getting his @ss handed to him like any demonrat endorsed by and campaigned for by preezy Felon, huh? So why not just switch party affiliation and run as a demonrat? I seriously doubt if ANYBODY would notice and he would still have as much chance of being president as O’mallo cup.

  • Giuseppe Franco

Weird. I haven’t seen any tweets from Trump tonight.

    • grais

      He’s speaking now.

edit – wow. short and sweet. first time ever.

      • Darth Venomous✓unmedicated

And being quite gracious about things, too, much to my surprise. Somewhat more than I would have expected, tbh.

        • grais

Yeah, I could just be cynical, but I think we may see him put on a softer, gentler mask after this. I won’t believe it’s genuine, but he might be realizing that lots of people don’t like his personality.

  • twfuller

It was either waste the money as fast as he could, or – give it back. Jeb made his choice…

  • vetgal1970

They just said Cruz set a record for the most Iowa caucus votes ever?

    • grais

Oh, my. Maybe that mailer worked.
      heh

      • vetgal1970

LOL Maybe but I still don’t like it very much 🙂

  • bil_g

Gilmore is being beaten by SMOD.

    • MoxieLouise1

They showed him having negative 1% a minute ago…

      • bil_g

How do you do that?! Maybe his one vote ended up being a dead person.

    • vetgal1970

Shucks, I didn’t know we had a candidate representing Middle Earth. We really are diverse this year

  • jaded

ha! Rand Paul got more votes than Jeb!

  • Dan Abbett

A win by Sen. Cruz in Iowa is a twofer. First, Cruz is the person I support in the primaries. Second and even as delightful is to read the comments on Breitbart from the Trumpettes who absolutely despise Cruz and are taking Trump’s loss to him very, very badly.

    • Giuseppe Franco

There might be a mass suicide at Breitbart when Trump’s campaign finally implodes.

      • MoxieLouise1

        Heaven’s Gate II

Bernie and Hillary tied, nyuk nyuk nyuk!!

  • Canned Heat

I’d vote for him for 25K

  • Misanthrope

Anyone with half a brain knew months ago that no amount of money could make Jeb a winner.
Says a lot about the party establishment that they tried anyway.

    • Perdido

They still believe with enough money they don’t need the base.
      Fine.
They and their money are not good for the nation.
(Anyone know where Carl Rove’s hidey-place is?)

  • Fingolfin

I dont like Jeb either but this smells too much like liberal “eat the rich” rhetoric. He spent a bunch? Who cares?

Oh yeah, I was so busy laughing at Trump I forgot to laugh at Jeb.

    http://i.imgur.com/qZi2d.jpg

Jeb spent $14 million in Iowa and received 5000 votes (roughly), how does that come out to anything near $25,000 per vote? More like $2800.

  • People Corporation

Iowa never correctly picks the final nominee. Cruz supporters ecstatic they picked him.

Jeb is actually a candidate? All this time I thought that Corky from “Life Goes On” became a politician.

  • John

  • LimpingHenry

We’ve had 7 years of a President who doesn’t care how much money he wastes, Jeb. A word to the wise.

  • sharkguitar

I’ll gladly vote for Jeb! for $25,000 dollars.

  • Conservative

How much has Hillary spent per vote. This is just the beginning: all those New York Big Banks and multi-millionaires will all have to be paid with new projects, new regulations, land grabs, illegal workers, etc. Wake up America…..Obama already indebted us to the tune of $9 trillion in seven years trying to repay all those who bought him election. The economy is lousy, unemployment is actually 5%, the Country has never been so divided, crimes rates are higher than ever. Hillary acts and screams like a maniac. I’m so sick of her screaming at us. She has already made it clear how she intends to perpetuate the ‘politics of division’. She is a very hateful, mean, thoroughly corrupt person who is incapable of telling the truth. She is very shrewd but unfortunately there are simpletons who will vote for her. There are so many deceived by Obama but they haven’t learned a thing.

  • bucketnutz

Typical Bush, spend it like you stole it. His Brother and his Father both spent money like Progrerssive Democrats
