Just over a year ago, former White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told “Reliable Sources” host Brian Stelter that President Obama is “a voracious consumer of the printed word” but “he doesn’t watch cable news.”
“I don’t think it would be accurate to say that by not watching cable news he’s not aware of what the political fight of the day is,” Carney added, “But he maintains a healthy distance.”
A year later, Stelter is still fascinated by the president’s alleged aversion to cable news, on which President Obama blames his lack of a full appreciation of the anxiety caused by terror attacks in Paris and San Bernardino.
Obama needs more cable news in his media diet? Revealing comment in a private meeting with newspaper columnists… pic.twitter.com/iUHz6Ey38g

@brianstelter @bamapachyderm Holy hell. Someone should switch the channel from ESPN more often.
— Aggierican (@aggierican) December 18, 2015
@brianstelter Clearly ESPN needs longer commercial breaks to facilitate Presidential channel flipping.
— Ralph Kramden (@ExposeThePump) December 18, 2015
@brianstelter @EWErickson It's really easy to switch the channel from ESPN to a news show. Maybe he can appoint a czar to teach him how.
— America's Tears (@AnnKateri04) December 18, 2015
@brianstelter either that's the reason, or Obama doesn't watch because he'd rather not hear people call him a pussy.
— Joshua Sharpe (@JoshuaWSharpe) December 18, 2015
@brianstelter It's almost like he's tone-deaf, strange…
— Kuato (@PhillipCMcGuire) December 18, 2015
@brianstelter He doesn't want to hear what people really think of him – his is the creepiest narcissist in our history – media swoons…
— jtf18james (@jtf18james) December 18, 2015
@brianstelter he needs cable to know how people felt? Reporters talk about the bubble around Presidents but dang.
— commonsense (@commonsense258) December 18, 2015
@brianstelter @Women4Trump Obama and HRC are so far removed from reality by now there's no way back.
— Big Al (@alanlieb) December 18, 2015
@brianstelter The leader of the free world should be able to do better than that.
— Holly (@HollyASwanson) December 18, 2015
@brianstelter In his defense, coverage on The Golf Channel was pretty sparse. Announcers were muted.

@brianstelter What a disgraceful, festering pile of fail. Sweet Jesus, if JournoList had any integrity, they'd hang themselves 4 shame.
— Prince of Whitebread (@RMGriffis) December 18, 2015
Suppose cable news would help him understand the "little people" better @brianstelter.
— David Adams (@SwamiDaveSays) December 18, 2015
Seriously though, without cable news how could he have any idea that terrorism causes anxiety? https://t.co/LJfRa9TwuT
— Phil Kerpen (@kerpen) December 18, 2015
He. Is. Lying. @brianstelter He didn't CARE whether people were anxious. This statement is to save face. As usual.
— Dicentra ن (@dicentra33) December 18, 2015
@brianstelter are you effing kidding me?
— texas tweedy (@tweedylouwho) December 18, 2015
That's just Obama furthering the academic myth that it's just the media getting people "riled up". Better they know nothing? @brianstelter
