Thought and prayers are pouring in for Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Alex Cobb, who took a line drive directly to the head at the top of the fifth inning in today’s game against the Kansas City Royals. Cobb reportedly remained conscious as he was taken off the field on a stretcher, but even viewers found themselves stunned by the impact.

The Rays provided the following statement following the incident:
In the 5th inning of today’s game against the Royals at Tropicana Field, Alex Cobb was struck by a line drive on the right ear. He was taken to Bayfront Medical Center for further examination. He remained conscious the entire time. We will provide more information as it becomes available.

Remarkably, Cobb is said to have suffered only a mild concussion.
