Parody site The Daily Currant managed to fool a few readers in August with its scoop regarding Todd Akin’s “homosexuality cure.” People who wanted it to be true didn’t bother checking the source before retweeting the news, and this Christmas, they were anxious to share news that Fox News host Bill O’Reilly had taken his “War on Christmas” to a new level by punching a department store Santa.

No, he didn’t. The original story ran under the headline, “Bill O’Reilly Arrested For Assaulting Department Store Santa,” and claimed that a Santa’s wish of “happy holidays” rather than “merry Christmas” drove the TV host to violence. Other blogs copied the piece outright, albeit with more colorful headlines, such as this one:
