Vox’s Ian Millhiser always has the hottest takes, so when he says that Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was “the greatest lawyer of her generation,” keep in mind that he was also confused that Joe Biden isn’t widely perceived as one of the country’s great political talents.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Ginsburg became the first woman to lie in state in the U.S. Capitol so that the public could pass through and pay their respects. Apparently, though, Millhiser seems to think that because President Trump rushed Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination that the nation wasn’t given time to properly mourn the death of Ginsburg.
I hate Trump for many reasons, but one is we never got to properly mourn Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
She was the greatest lawyer of her generation. She achieved revolutionary change through the sheer force of reason. And the pain of her loss was overwhelmed by fear of the future.

This editor lives in an area so blue people had yard signs featuring Ruth Bader Ginsburg next to their Biden/Harris signs.
I was a huge admirer of hers but it’s nonsensical to suggest that we “never got to properly mourn her.” There was a tsunami of eulogies in the nation’s most prominent publications, not to mention on Twitter and in private.

Speaking of opinions, a lot of people in the comments are hoping that a Biden administration rights this injustice and properly recognizes Ginsburg, maybe by making her birthday a national holiday or something. We’re not sure what they want.
