We Need to Abort This Orwellian Shift in Language

AP Photo/Rogelio V. Solis

In his 1971 manifesto Rules for Radicals, Saul Alinsky said 'He who controls the language controls the masses', and he was right. Language is a powerful tool and the Left knows this: it's why they try to erase the word 'woman' and replace it with 'egg producer' and 'womb owner' and 'birthing person.'

It's also why they try to cancel people for saying things they don't like. They want people to think before they speak, and preferably not speak at all if what they want to say isn't sufficiently woke enough.

It's dangerous and antithetical to free peoples.

But there isn't a more Orwellian and nefarious attempt to change language than this:

We'll set aside the fact an opthamologist is opining on abortion for a moment and focus on what I call malicious semantics.

Up until two seconds ago, the word abortion had a very clear, specific meaning: the termination of a pregnancy resulting in the death of the fetus.

Most Americans support some restrictions on abortion, and most support limited abortion parameters on-par with those in Europe, where third trimester/late-term abortions are restricted.

But the American Left want no restrictions. We've gone from 'safe, legal, and rare' to 'SHOUT YOUR ABORTION' in the last five years.

And now they're trying to say your delivery is also a form of abortion.

See what the game is here?

Now they're classifying abortion as the termination of a pregnancy, rather than the termination of an unborn child.

And because delivery a baby -- whether vaginally or via C-section -- is also the termination of a pregnancy, it's technically an abortion. Therefore, every woman who has ever given birth has had at least one abortion!

See? It's normal and common and you can't object to abortion because you're objecting to having babies!

We must absolutely put a stop to this Orwellian game of semantics. Do not let the Left reclassify the delivery of a living baby as an abortion in their attempt to normalize a grotesque, inhumane evil.

That's what abortion is. While I recognize that I am in the political minority on this, abortion should be banned. Without exception. A baby conceived in rape is no less human and worthy of life than the babies who were a product of my marriage. It's wrong, and it's impossible to make an argument why we should allow abortion in some circumstances, but not those other circumstances.

The way to make this change, of course, is not through legislation but through the changing of hearts and minds on the issue. That can be done, and what it fosters is more lasting: a cultural acceptance of life and pregnancy and a cultural belief that babies and parenthood are fundamentally good things. Because they are. They also supercede any laws, which can be changed by future legislature (or used as a perpetual political football).

This is a game the Left knows, which is why they're trying very hard to normalize abortion by putting it in the same category as delivery of a baby.

The two things are not the same and never will be.
