Obama tells Letterman he expects the Muslim world to 'keep our people safe'

President Obama used his appearance on David Letterman’s show to talk directly to the people of the Muslim world, because we all know that Dave is huge in Yemen, right?

“The message we have to send to the Muslim world is we expect you to work with us to keep our people safe,” Obama said during a taped interview with CBS’s David Letterman in New York. “We expect their full cooperation because that’s the only way the world works.”

This will eventually be seen by some in the Muslim world, but it’s hard to see how anyone who isn’t already favorably disposed toward the U.S. will be moved by this — especially on a program that epitomizes the supposedly crude tendencies of our decadent Western society. At home, it’s just another example of passivity and leading from behind. “Expecting” Middle Eastern countries to keep our people safe clearly has not worked.  Maybe if people who want to kill us knew that they could expect leadership from the U.S. president, they wouldn’t be testing his limits.
