We’ve been talking a lot about AI recently. Just yesterday, we talked about a simulation of a weaponized drone which attempted to kill its controller and, more humorously, when a lawyer found out you can’t trust ChatGPT in the hardest way possible. So, surely if the robot apocalypse starts, we will be might be smart enough to outwit the robots, right? Right?
My little cousin Arjun got caught using ChatGPT on his 7th grade English homework. pic.twitter.com/Enh0ZkeD4P

So if you don’t want to enlarge it, what Roshan is saying is allegedly a cousin of his got caught cheating on his homework by using AI to assist him because in one of the answers he copied straight from the chatbot, included the phrase ‘As an AI language model …’
And he is hardly alone. In the replies, Steve Moser points us toward this Tweet:
GPT generated product descriptions and reviews (“as an AI language model I can’t”) are in most corners of the web now: Apple App Store, Google Play Store, Google Maps reviews, Walmart product descriptions, Amazon reviews, and Pinterest. pic.twitter.com/SAdmVXKEDw

But back to this young alleged cheater (we say ‘allegedly’ only because it is possible that Roshan is faking the whole story):
But how can they prove he used AI?
— Nathan Cahill (@nathanrobotdr) June 2, 2023
How did they find out ?
— David Griell (@grielldavid) June 2, 2023
How could he write that sentence without even thinking about it 😓

If he made it to 7th grade and didn't figure out to take that part of the response out, they system is failing our kids.

To be fair, our schools are failing most of our kids.
Lol😂😂
Once In my tuition, a boy copied his entire essay hw from the internet, and at the end, he wrote 'If you liked this essay like and refer it to others '— Mohammed Dodia (@mohammed_dodia) June 2, 2023
I can understand getting caught if he copy pasted chatgpt output into a word doc he submitted, but how dumb do you have to be to actually WRITE the words “as an AI language model…” and submit it https://t.co/l1Cb20EZkW

We’re always hesitant to call anyone under the age of eighteen dumb in such a public forum. But if this is real, the kid is dumb.
He had only one job 🤦🏾

At least he's honest https://t.co/a92kz3kJ29

Some even expressed doubt this was real.
no way he wrote that down genuinely no way https://t.co/T7TZbK2u6b

Our gut says that people are, in fact, actually this stupid, and this is a lot of effort to fake it. It’s not impossible to be fake, but there you go.
And it’s worth noting that this has allegedly happened before:
Teachers: "AI is a disaster, how am I going to know who is cheating?!"
Students: pic.twitter.com/RXGLt4FYKA
— Justine Moore (@venturetwins) April 18, 2023
And finally, we are told this:
And that my friend, is my villain origin story
— Shreya Gandhi (@shreya_gandhi2) June 1, 2023
Well … crap.
