All hail political correctness!
BREAKING: Associated Press (@AP) Drops 'Illegal Immigrant' From Stylebook http://t.co/nZfFItFQum
— Jordan Fabian (@Jordanfabian) April 2, 2013
AP Style tip: @AP no longer sanctions the term "illegal immigrant." Here's why: http://t.co/uKOKjuE3tb
— APStylebook (@APStylebook) April 2, 2013
The AP has announced on its blog that it no longer sanctions the use of the term “illegal immigrant” to describe immigrants who are in this country illegally. No, really:
Note: AP doesn't even consider the more legally precise term "illegal alien." Its focus was the already-inaccurate "illegal immigrant."

Refrain from the word "debt". Instead say "monetary sum owed due to financing of super-awesome programs" #NewAPGuidelines

No more "illegal immigrant" use. So we're at the point where "pro-law enforcement" means "anti-immigrant bigot." #tcot

Update:
Hey, why stop with the Associated Press? There’s so much more PC potential!

You're next, @nytimes, @latimes, @washingtonpost, @WSJ. No human being is illegal. cc @AP @DefineAmerican

Looks like more “nuanced” reporting could be on its way:
NYT standards editor says they've "been discussing some possible revisions in our guidance" on using terms like "illegal immigrant."
— Michael Calderone (@mlcalderone) April 2, 2013
On "illegal immigrants": I'm told that @nytimes is also working on revisions to its usage guidelines to "provide more nuance and options."

Nothing would make the SEIU happier:
#TimeIsNow RT @32BJ_SEIU: 'Illegal immigrant' no more! http://t.co/3dQTd45flC A welcome & overdue decision by @AP. @nytimes next? #CIR

Update:
Such utter lame-itude from the AP warrants major mockery. Fortunately, snarky Twitterers delivered. Enjoy!
