'This is disgusting': Alyssa Milano lashes out at DHS immigration sting that -- SURPRISE! -- was started by the Obama administration

Alyssa Milano thinks it is “disgusting” that the Department of Homeland Security used a fake university in Michigan to catch illegal immigrants trying to obtain student visas:

She linked to this write-up from the Daily Beast, which for some reason doesn’t list the date the sting started. The story just says the program has been operating “for years”:

For years, the Department of Homeland Security has operated a fake university in the Detroit suburbs as part of an undercover operation that lured undocumented immigrants seeking to obtain fraudulent student visas.

Now, eight people from around the country have been indicted for “conspiracy to commit visa fraud and harboring aliens for profit,” as part of an elaborate scheme to aid as many as 600 foreign nationals in remaining in the United States illegally.

The Dail Beast aggregated its article from the Detroit News, which does helpfully tell us that the “disgusting” behavior started under the Obama administration:

Starting in 2015, the university was part of an undercover operation dubbed “Paper Chase” and designed to identify recruiters and entities engaged in immigration fraud, according to the indictment. Homeland Security agents started posing as university officials in February 2017.
