As Twitchy reported last month, at some point the Anti-Defamation League changed the definition of “racism” on its website to make it clear that only white people can be racists: “Racism is the marginalization and/or oppression of people of color based on a socially constructed racial hierarchy that privileges white people.” That’s straight out of critical race theory.
We’re not sure why — whether it was because of the backlash or just to protect Whoopi Goldberg — but the ADL has changed its definition again, but like inflation, this definition is only transitory. In other words, they don’t have a working definition of racism at the moment, but check back later.
Apparently the ADL has cycled through three definitions of "racism" on its website recently, and the current definition is listed as an "interim definition." This is seriously like a Monty Python sketch. pic.twitter.com/wvSSmIPGvJ

The ADL just minutes ago changed its definition of "racism" as a response to the Whoopie situation. Her claim that Hitler wasn't racist because racism is something whites do to blacks is founded in the critical theory definition of racism used by ADL. Incredible. Some time today the ADL changed its definition of racism again, this time to an "interim definition", as if a placeholder until they can find a permanent candidate! What a debacle. Shameful what they've done to this organization pic.twitter.com/VtNkymF1wP

Here’s the ADL’s latest attempt:
Racism (interim definition): Racism occurs when individuals or institutions show more favorable evaluation or treatment of an individual or group based on race or ethnicity. (Prof. Robert Livingston, The Conversation). For more about this definition, click here.

So it’s not just white people? Maybe:
For the record, ADL's definition of 'systemic racism' still follows the white-centric definition pic.twitter.com/ne7iuqMutV

To recap: ADL changed it definition of racism, Whoopi Goldberg expressed *that* definition, ADL denounced her then changed its own definition.

What the hell kind of sick game is this to them?

Greenblatt wants 'feedback' on their definitions to come through their website, where it can be curated, not social media, where it can't. lmao pic.twitter.com/kBOawE6RJA

Well best of luck, I sincerely hope the CEO of the ADL at some point is ready to say what racism is. It's a process, I guess!

I believe @iowahawkblog had a nostrum that applied here. Something about hollowing out an organization and wearing it as a skin-suit.

Wait — so how long was the Farrakhan / CRT definition of "racism" up there?
— Mario Loyola (@Mario_A_Loyola) February 2, 2022
I don't remember but probably a year or two? the backlash was recent but the change wasn't as recent

"We will find a permanent definition once we consult with Nikole Hannah-Jones and Robin DiAngelo. Thank you."
— Stephen L. Miller (@redsteeze) February 2, 2022
Just an interim definition so they can complete the interview process. If the definition makes the playoffs it may be considered.
— Mike McD (@MickGMick) February 2, 2022
Have they considered trying a used book store and seeing if they can find a dictionary from the 80s?

With this definition, Harvard et al are guilty with their admissions policies

It pains me to say this, but the ADL is a PR firm for the Democratic Party that probably causes more antisemitism than it stops.https://t.co/aSLNQS3fGr

They got pushback, probably more than expected, possibly from people they didn't expect it from.
I hope they get more.

Moral relativism is having no standards, morals, or internal compass at all, blowing in the wind like a wind vane.

The suggestion that a word can have an interim definition sums up the uselessness of the ADL nicely.

Crazy they can’t stick with a definition of a problem they are organized to challenge. pic.twitter.com/7rbaREbPqA

It’s sort of the ADL’s job to know what racism is.
