Sen. Tim Scott was a hit at the Washington Press Club Foundation dinner Wednesday night, particularly with his comic take on Kellyanne Conway’s “shoes on the couch” scandal that gripped the nation for a few minutes this week.
Comedy’s tougher than it looks, though, and Benny Johnson reports that Rep. Cedric Richmond’s own shot at sofa humor didn’t go over quite as well.
Terrible @CedricRichmond line at Presa FoundationDinner about @KellyannePolls on couch photo: "She looks very familiar in that position."

Jesus, that's such a vile thing to say.

Wow, that’s … not cool.
Congressman @CedricRichmond just made a deeply inappropriate joke about @KellyannePolls. Honestly, room full of liberals, everyone groaned

This is an exact quote from congressman @CedricRichmond: "Y'all seen that photo of Kellyanne on couch? She looks familiar in that position." pic.twitter.com/drMybx6ruk

FOR THE RECORD: The congressman may have said "comfortable" instead of "familiar."
Recording will sho. Not sure which is worse. https://t.co/5FS8uXYO2w— Benny (@bennyjohnson) March 2, 2017
It doesn’t look as though either version struck the public’s funny bone.
what a sickening thing to say. It's should never be alright to smear a woman in this fashion.

@The_Real_Fly @CedricRichmond really? take politics off the table and just have some respect for women
— Steph Wilkinson (@ephie123) March 2, 2017
Mysogynistic much? @KellyannePolls is an advisor to the president, a mom of 4 & an accomplished woman. Vile.

is this them going high again? If so, I'd hate to see what their going low would look like.

If comedy’s all about the timing, then Richmond really ought to stay out of stand-up.
Today begins #WomensHistoryMonth and it wouldn't be right if I didn't recognize some phenomenal civil rights activists. pic.twitter.com/0zBY5lAOG5
