Chris Christie takes on Corzine and MF Global

“You think New Jersey would look like it looks today if you had re-elected Jon Corzine two years ago?” he said. The sheer mention of the former Democratic governor’s name drew a mix of knowing chuckles and boos.

“No chance, right?” he said, without skipping a beat. “We’d probably be light $1.6 billion.”

The sharp jab led to a moment’s hesitation — and then full-belly laughter from the audience.

“Those of you who read the papers got that joke,” he said.
