BuzzFeed’s editor in chief Ben Smith claimed the other day that the point of Kate Aurthur’s bizarre, bigoted smear piece on Chip and Joanna Gaines was to get HGTV to say whether or not LGBT couples are banned from “Fixer Upper.” Then yesterday, Smith shared a post revealing that yes, HGTV is totally fine with LGBT couples appearing on the show.
It was, of course, completely ridiculous that HGTV be expected to hold itself accountable to the hacks at BuzzFeed in the first place. But this move from HGTV yesterday may very well have made all the insanity worth it:
