Alas, it’s true. Rick Santorum is reportedly set to withdraw from the 2016 GOP presidential race:

The news comes as kind of a shock, as many Americans had forgotten he was still running.

Oof.

  • https://twitter.com/fedupamerican5 EverydayWoman

The ‘wait, was he running?’ jokes are getting old!

    • Doc Farmer✔ᶜᵒᵛᶠᵉᶠᵉ ᵈᵉᵖˡᵒʳᵃᵇˡᵉ

In this case, we’re not joking.

      • Jesse-Messy Hammer

Yet there’s a big difference between this report & today’s other Twitter-trender that ex-VA-Gov Jim Gilmour isn’t yet dropping out: Twitchy was “on it” when Rick entered the race last summer in the first place…whereas I don’t recall Twitchy or anyone informing us of whenever it is that Gilmour “threw his hat in”.

    • tops116 ✓Quipper

Well, don’t worry, EW. We have plenty of jokes about Trump being a big crybaby.

      • kch50428

Donnie is the Massengill candidate… he’s a disposable French word for shower.

        • san rafael blue

          Rhymes with Boooshh!

      • https://twitter.com/fedupamerican5 EverydayWoman

        Go ahead, I don’t mind!

    • Darth Venomous✓unmedicated

So’s your screeching about Trump, but we notice you’re still here…

      • https://twitter.com/fedupamerican5 EverydayWoman

        Wut?

        • Darth Venomous✓unmedicated

So, reading comprehension’s not your long suit.

          Got it.

          • https://twitter.com/fedupamerican5 EverydayWoman

Lol, really what is your problem with me supporting Trump AND noticing that everytime someone drops out from the race Twitter have the same response ” wait, was he still running”?
Come on dude, don’t keep so much anger inside;)

          • Darth Venomous✓unmedicated

            Lol

Denizens of Twitchy…ever notice that the really stupid ones lean on the linguistic crutch “lol”?

Got an “rofl” in there for me too, princess?

really what is your problem with me supporting Trump AND noticing that everytime someone drops out from the race Twitter have the same response ” wait, was he still running”?

            By itself? Nothing, really.

On top of all the rest of your Trumpanzee screeching? Effin’ plenty.

            As in, it’s getting old.

But thanks for confirming that self-awareness isn’t your strong suit, either. Noted for future reference.

Come on dude, don’t keep so much anger inside

            Make me.

          • https://twitter.com/fedupamerican5 EverydayWoman

Seriously, what is troubling you brother? Why so much anger, vitriol and word hate toward a nameless person you don’t even know? I am genuinely asking.

          • Darth Venomous✓unmedicated

Seriously, what is troubling you brother?

In the first place, princess, I’m not your brother. Don’t even come at me with that.

Why so much anger, vitriol and word hate toward a nameless person you don’t even know? I am genuinely asking.

Asked and answered. If you’re truly that self-unaware; if you don’t understand, after bleating about how something’s getting old, how more than a few of us think the exact same thing about your snivelings…then nothing further I might say will be of any help to you. (Or us, for that matter, as you continue to whine away.)

We’re tired of you. Shut your piehole & go back to Breitbart. As for me, I don’t have time (or, for that matter, inclination) to waste further effort on an idiot Trumpanzee-ette like you.

          • https://twitter.com/fedupamerican5 EverydayWoman

Oh my god, you are totally unhinged, aren’t you? May God bless you and give some peace! I hope you are not a Cruz supporter because he is my second choice and with supporters like you he is slipping in my regard every day!

    • Jesse-Messy Hammer

Very true. They’re especially getting old, since these are the same jokers who SQUEE’d about how (last week) Carly Fiorina “took on Megyn Kelly” when asked at the last debate to defend Rick’s pro-life bona-fides…Carly basically replied “How-dare-you-Megyn-question-history’s-foremost-ProLifer-Rick”? (Rick’s dropout must be confusing to Carly who apparently thinks Megyn Kelly [rather than Rick] is her competitor for the Repub-nom.) Upon pressing a “Rick’s-pro-life”-believer in that thread last week, THIS is what I was told is Rick’s pro-life “cred”: he’s always voted to outlaw partial/live-birth abortion. “SO WHAT (I asked the commenter), since I thought “pro-life” meant in the womb & from conception?” Rick’s against “abortion-on-delivery”, #WooHoo to that, since so is every Repub (can’t be any such things as RINOs then) as are some pro-choice Dems. SO NOW the same people just went from “Santorum = Reagan” over to “wait-was-he-running”. Indy-Elitist hypocrites these jokers are.

  • http://www.vatican.va/ Rulz

All he did was take away votes from Cruz this time.

    • Doc Farmer✔ᶜᵒᵛᶠᵉᶠᵉ ᵈᵉᵖˡᵒʳᵃᵇˡᵉ

Unless, he was part of Cruz’s secret underhanded plot to take those votes away from Carson, of course…

Wait, would Cruz voters have really voted for Santorum instead?

      • tops116 ✓Quipper

A lot of the people who voted for Cruz probably did so for Santorum in 2012, but I strongly doubt they would’ve voted for Santorum again if Cruz wasn’t running.

        • nc ✓s & balances

          GMTA

      • nc ✓s & balances

It’s the other way around. I was a 2012 all-in Santorum supporter. But this year it was clear his time had passed so I have been all-in for Cruz.

  • Doc Farmer✔ᶜᵒᵛᶠᵉᶠᵉ ᵈᵉᵖˡᵒʳᵃᵇˡᵉ

I mean, I’m sorry to see him go but it was pretty much the reality of the situation.

Uh, who the fuck is this one again?

  • nc ✓s & balances

I saw Huckabee this morning who was asked if he was endorsing. I was expecting him to say Trump after the way the winds were blowing the last week or so, but NO. He said he’s not endorsing anyone right now.

    Wonder what Santorum will do?

    • AMD_Afficionado

Hopefully The Huckster won’t be able to hitch himself to Trump.

    • Nat Rev

I doubt if Rick has all that much sway on the 14 people who still support him.

    • interestedobserver2

I’m guessing he’ll endorse Bernie. Feel the Bern! Yeah! 😉

    • CarolinaGirl3

Maybe he could take another try at dethroning the biggest name in Talk Radio.

      • Darth Venomous✓unmedicated

Hope he’s got some more fake callers lined up… (chuckle)

  • Penny✓ItsSoFluffy! #GoBolts!

Buh-bye, Rick. And please don’t try this again, OK?

    • R.C.

I think hes a slow learner.

      • Penny✓ItsSoFluffy! #GoBolts!

        Yeppers.

  • freeinaz

Guess that Foster guy finally decided he was throwing good money away.

    • tops116 ✓Quipper

It took ’em less time than Jeb’s donors, that’s for sure.

      • freeinaz

Sooner or later the Rove train will derail, white board and all!

  • tops116 ✓Quipper

Yeah, we’re pretty much at the point where everyone not in the top three needs to drop out. ‘Course, Trump should drop out, too, but more because he’s such a goddamn whiner.

    • tbmbuzz

Trump will self destruct. Although not apparent to everyone yet, his campaign has begun its downslide. He will NOT be the Republican nominee.

    • Lamontyoubigdummy

If he drops out, his drop out will be “the classiest” of all dropouts.

Everybody will love it, and want to watch it. It”l be that classy.

      Gold leafed dropout.

      Super classy.

      • Hamm Sammichez

        Yuge, it’ll be YUGE!!!

      • nc ✓s & balances

Maybe he’ll build a yuge golden door that he can walk through to make his grand exit.

        • Lamontyoubigdummy

Former Mrs. America. Mrs. World, and The Apprentice contestants flanking the runway to the gold leafed door.

    • Ruffnek

Trump won’t bow out, his bots are foaming at the mouth to support him, been to Breitbart lately? Dear lord you’d think Trump was paying them to troll, really gone downhill lately, especially the Cruz is owned by banks bs and the birthers. I will give Trump credit though, he really could murder someone in the street and they’d still vote for him.

      • The_Kat ✓vilified

I think George Soros is paying them to troll. The problem is they are too busy caucusing for Hillary and Sanders to bother with Trump when it counts.

    • JunkMonkey

He’s already given himself an out. Talking about self-funding his campaign yesterday, he said it wasn’t worth it anymore since he didn’t come in first in Iowa. So it’s over; either he’ll take donations and be beholden to them (kills his credibility since that’s the whole argument for him) or he’ll just quit wasting his money if he can’t win ALL the states.

  • AMD_Afficionado

During the Trump Veterans Rally, didn’t Santorum say something to the effect that he was for a non-Trump candidate?

Hopefully, if Santorum does drop out and endorse another tonight, he’s had an epiphany 🙂

  • Mike Achertz
  • algonquinmatt

When Huckabee and Sanitarium showed up at Trump’s thing last week, they may as well have quit right then and there.

    • freeinaz

Don’t blame them to wait until there was some type of actual voting done. Bet neither one of them thought they’d do so bad in a state they actually won one before!

      • algonquinmatt

Sure, but showing up to Trump’s party was pathetic.

  • Andrew

Gonna be a made scramble for his supporters – I figure Cruz gets one of them, and Rubio gets the other.

    • freeinaz

      They’ll each get 1/2 a person

      • Kneave Riggall

Will there be a coin toss?

    • Don Reed

      Who he?

  • Lamontyoubigdummy

Well Carson is mad, but, while you’re a groundbreaking neurosurgeon sir, somebody should have told you politics ain’t beanbag.

Kasich got endorsed by the NYT so he ain’t going until the wheels fall off.

Christie can go back to listening to Springsteen and eatin’ funnel cakes on the Jersey shore.

And Jeb can be a dick or not.

    • Carolyn#OYSD

And Jeb can be a dick or not.

I got money that says he won’t go gracefully…so door Number #1 it is.

      • Lamontyoubigdummy

I don’t think Dubya will let him do that. Through NH, sure. But end of line after.

Hit the links in Allahpundit’s post. His big donors have already dropped lifeboats and are rowing towards USS GOP Establishment Candidate Rubio.

  • algonquinmatt

Does this mean that we won’t get to hear Rick Santorum talk about contraception anymore?

    • vetgal1970

Nope. It’s still a general campaign issue, there’s a chance he could get called up to opine

  • Zhytamyr
    • algonquinmatt

have you looked at the thread, by chance? lol.

  • Bob Maistros

What’s the point of this attack? Santorum is a principled conservative with a clear vision of the real problems besetting our nation — as described by Thomas Sowell today, “social degeneration at home and dire threats from abroad” — and how to restore American exceptionalism. Reposting these demeaning, snarky posts is uncalled for.

    • Bob Maistros

PS I didn’t necessarily agree with all his positions — especially favoring American manufacturing and other big-government “solutions” — and he wasn’t my guy. But again, this entire post is mean-spirited and tacky.

  • Russ

Gotta love John King’s tweet. The way it was written, it could be interpreted as CNN plans to endorse Santorum, now that he’s withdrawing his candidacy.

  • http://youhavetobethistalltogoonthisride.blogspot.com/ keyboard jockey

He couldn’t effectively split the conservative vote for the establishment what’s the point of him campaigning if he can’t be a drag on the conservatives running in the primary? the entire purpose of the billionaire funding him is to keep a conservative from winning the nomination.

  • JosephBloughs ✓Viagrafied

Maybe it was the standing on stage next to Trump with big “TRUMP FOR PRESIDENT” banners in the picture that gave it away?

  • http://youhavetobethistalltogoonthisride.blogspot.com/ keyboard jockey

Yes but thank goodness Jim Gilmore hasn’t thrown in the towel/

    • Russ

LOL. I’d forgotten Gilmore was running until he showed up at the last kiddie table debate.

  • mallen717

If he had any chance at all, I would have voted for him. Always liked his conservative creds and his strong military defense stance.

  • The_Kat ✓vilified

It’s too bad we couldn’t get rid of Trump and keep Santorum. At least Santorum is more of an actual conservative.

  • interestedobserver2

Both of his supporters will be deeply disappointed…

  • tim

If I were CNN I’d watch what I were saying after last night’s Carson debacle. Oh wait never mind, they really don’t care that they cost someone votes on the repub side do they

  • Jerry Shelton

Culling the herd. Hopefully this ends the stupid “under card” thing. Almost as bad as being 4th string bench warmers
